obsessive24 Hee, actually the DPTM awards are why I started it. I think having a deadline will help me with my avoidance, but there's less pressure than Festivids since I can just not enter and nobody misses out. I was resisting the urge to vid Florence quite well until I saw the theme, haha. Turns out I was just waiting for an excuse and I didn't know it. ;D

I think I'm finally circling on on the final version of my Festivid. Been in a frustrating sort of limbo where 90 percent of it fell into place right away save for some tweaking, but 10 seconds of it has had me bashing my head into walls for almost a month. So if I have finally figured out how to deal with it I will throw a PARTY.

Thank goodness for days off. I haven't so much as touched anything fandom-related in DAYS, but I spent a few hours last night and today working on "America", and YAY I HAVE ACHIEVED VERSE #1.
(And I have an outline for Vid #2, which hopefully will eventually materialize. Huzzah for outlining on the train.)

So if I have finally figured out how to deal with it I will throw a PARTY. Yay, a party! Go, you! Ugh, that is the worst. I remember working on this vid with hafital where the line "Don't give up" repeats a bunch of times. The whole vid was kind of an exercise in head-banging, but when we got to the last missing "Don't give up" it would not work. No matter what we tried! We thought it was the ultimate cruel joke, because the song kept telling us, "don't give up! don't give up!" and we were like, BUT WE WANT TO GIVE UP.

I think I have had a similar experience while working out...that's what happens when you put things like Make a Man Out of You from Mulan on your workout playlist. I am currently 30 SECONDS away from having a full timeline (on a 4:30ish vid, so it feel sooo close), and I am absolutely, completely stuck. Possibly because I know once I finish I really need to redo the last minute or so, which was the first part I finished. That somehow seems more daunting than the empty 30 seconds leading up to it.

I randomly started to vid "The Eagle" today. There's this Runrig song that we listened to over and over again during our holiday in Scotland, and I kept thinking that it really needed to be vidded for "The Eagle" because it is very rhythm-driven and sung in Gaelic. It almost sounds like an enchantment or a battle song. So after having struggled with "From the North" for so long I figured, what the Hell, pick an easy song and just throw clips on a timeline for fun ;D I still need to fill one minute and I think I'm running out of clips because I'm trying to focus on the Picts and Highlands rather than Marcus and Esca, and it might get repetitive very soon. Then again, I'm just making this vid for myself so who cares if the middle consists of random clips to fill the void...

I had a heck of a time getting started on my festivid but, now I have most of verse one and verse two and a pretty good idea of what I want to do with the middle and the end.
It looks like it might even end up having like structure and stuff. Really wasn't expecting that.

It sounds like something I'd enjoy, and you made me wonder idly whether you could use clips from Gladiator with clips from The Eagle. I haven't looked at Gladiator in a long time, but it might be kind of cool if you could... /random

killabeez Thank you ;D I'm growing more and more fond of this vid, actually. I haven't seen Gladiator, I confess, though I've heard good things about it. Eh. I just realised that I used the avi-file I grabbed off the internets for vidding, not my DVD rip. Which means now I have the original file's black bars in the video PLUS the black bars SV adds. *sigh* I suppose the smartest thing would be to just start over completely but I'm really fond of some of the bits on the timeline and I guess I can't exactly copy them. Meh.

With NaNo done, and the post-NaNo house clean complete *and* with a weekend off work. I am ensconced on the sofa ripping source for a new vid. \o/ I have source, I have song, I have vague ideas about narrative. Now all I need to do is break that 'argh now I have to start with the clipping and the editing and what if it sucks - if I don't start at least then it won't suck' stage. This happens with writing too, so it's no problem really. Acknowledge, accept, and just get out of your own way so you can begin Jaz
