It hardly seems possible, but it's almost Festivids time again! I thought I'd kick off a new thread, and (taking the lead from Jetpack Monkey's journal post) ask what everyone is planning to request this year. That way, we can all get a jump start on fandoms that might come up, and maybe watch a few things in preparation, so that we may offer more fandoms that are likely to be matched with someone.
I'm having a bit of a think about mine. What are yours?

Is it time again already? Uhm. I have no idea what fandoms I'm going to suggest except I'm probably going to nominate Super 8 and maaaaaaaybe BBC's "Planet Earth". And I'll have to think about the others. Maybe the Christopher Reeve Superman films since fannishwise I'm all about comics and Superman these days ;D I'll have to ponder this some more, though.

My plan is the same this year: check out the fandoms and then snipe in with a treat, possibly. I just can't make myself commit to the full thing. Although one thing I really want to do this year is to try hard to ape someone else's style, and then laugh to myself as people guess wrong.

And I guess it would also be a great experiment in vidding. Okay, I've had a think, and here are some of the fandoms I'm definitely requesting: Storm Chasers - the Discovery Channel reality show Game On - English comedy about 3 flatmates How I Met Your Mother - if it still qualifies The Flight Of The Conchords I need to go find some movies for safety fandoms, too.

I love the Storm Chasers idea! Not sure if I'll participate -- vidding is still pretty new to me and taking on an unknown fandom seems daunting. Though maybe a safety fandom would be OK.

Don't be daunted! The great thing about Festivids is that the vids only have to be a minute long, and everyone is super excited to see bids in rare fandoms. It's a lovely atmosphere to vid in. And everyone has a safety fandom or two for you to pick from, you don't have to do the actual fandom you match on if you see they've requested something else you'd rather do. None of my Festivids have been longer than about 2.45, and I'm sure people would be happy to help cutting songs down for you if you needed it.

OK, I think I'm convinced! (That wasn't too difficult.)
I'd likely request films, cause I don't think I watch any tv shows that meet the criteria. Off the top of my head, I'd be delighted to see vids of I Shot Andy Warhol or Cradle Will Rock (would need to check if this qualifies).

I always only have two or three fandoms in mind before nominations. That is, until I see the list from past years, and then I'm reminded that I want to nominate ALL the fandoms, and then it's just a matter of cutting the list down from 50 to 10.

I'd really like to see if I can manage a treat this year, as well as my assignment. I actually completed two vids last year, but both were part of my assignment. I think if I concentrate on movies, it could be do-able.

I made four vids last time, three of which were treats. I hope I can repeat that this time; it was so much fun and such an rewarding experience

Nominations have started!! What is everyone nominating? I personally haven't thought about it yet because I wanted to be able to actually think about nominations during the nomination period instead of nominating everything on the first day and then waiting anxiously for sign-ups to start (which is what happened last year).

I nominated about ten fandoms already, mainly because I was told I could go back and change them later ;D
I'm wondering if I should be tricksy and nominate The Amazing Spider-man. The DVD isn't out until November 8th, which means that technically it's still a rare fandom because no one vids it. Then again doing that would probably defeat the purpose of Festivids, given that there'll be an explosion of Spider-man vids once the DVD is out.
My nominations so far include Planet Earth (BBC), Community, How I Met Your Mother, Smokey and the Bandit, Superman I-IV, Super 8, The Rounders, Little Miss Sunshine, Back to the Future & Good Bye Lenin.

I think people have done that before, but I can't remember what the general reaction was. On a similar note, it's super tricky to figure out if you want to nominate any new fall shows, because they might end up being terrible/getting canceled after a few episodes.
My nominations so far are incredibly predictable: Animorphs, Boy Meets World, The Mighty Boosh, Revenge, Space Cases, Stand By Me, and Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory.
I swear, I will nominate Animorphs and Space Cases every single year until someone finally makes a vid for one of them!

I think people have done that with Yuletide at least--I heard Merlin made it the first year because it had only just started airing. I won't nominate Spider-man, though (so if you see it appear on the list, it wasn't me, I promise). After all Festivids is for small fandoms. It was just a tempting idea Oh, you were the one who nominated Stand By Me? I might nominate it as well.
