I'm about to start a Harry Potter vid. It's one I tried to start a year or two ago, before all the movies were out, but fell on my face and deleted the whole thing in a fit of pique. But recently someone I admire very much has agreed to mentor me in mood and narrative structure, and we decided this one was a good example to start with, because the source is nice and visually dynamic. And of course now all the movies are out, it'll make much more sense, thematically. Before, the end would have been missing.

M found this amazing song for a GoT ensemble vid that he wants me to make, so that's next on my agenda. I've been blocked on a Theon vid for ages so this is a good way to cleanse the palate. And then a Sherlock vid, probably. I have this song that really reminds me of lovely London so the whole thing is just a vehicle for the pretty London footage in Sherlock.

@obsessive24 I no longer watch GoT but I'd be veeeery interested to see what you do with Sherlock. Pretty London sounds excellent! ;D
I'm projectless at the moment. I have a few hings I kind of want to do but nothing that has me go, "OhyesIneedtovidthisrightthisinstant". Except, anyone remember Charmax's super hero vid set to "Destiny Calling"? I would love to make a "follow-up" to that one using footage from The Avengers but I don't want to look like I'm blatantly stealing ideas. Plus there'd always be the direct comparison with Charmax...
On top of that I've been a little blocked since I saw and marvelled at bradcpu's "Ride to California". I've been rewatching that vid a couple times a day because the editing is so incredibly flawless and I'm sitting here thinking, "How? HOW?"

Ooooooooooooh, a Harry Potter vid from you? I'm intrigued. And excited Don't get too excited! At the rate my source review is going, it could be a year in the making. My son has decided sleep is for losers so my vidding time is severely curtailed In the last three weeks I've managed to watch half a movie and rip three. *sigh*

I'm finally working on a Teen Wolf vid idea I've had for a while. SO. MUCH. LACROSSE.

I'm beginning to think I really need to watch Teen Wolf after all... I've finally started a Hunger Games vid but it's...going slow. I love the song and it instantly made me think of Katniss, but it has a kind of hopeful undertone which given the source material isn't exactly easy to work in

Oooh, I'm interested in seeing what you come up with! I was starting to make a Hunger Games vid too, and then I finally admitted to myself that the narrative in my vid wasn't much different than the message the movie was giving, so I'm trying to figure out how to make it more interesting and not just a retelling of the story.

littleheaven, I hope your source watching is able to pick up soon! I would love to see more hunger games vids, especially with the shiny source. I haven't been making time to seek out vids if they don't appear on my flist, so I think all I've seen were the VVC ones. I'm working on an Angel vid focusing on how one of the characters views another one. Running into a bit of a wall in figuring out how to convey the argument that what I'm showing is how one of the characters sees this other character, not how I see them (nor think they should be seen).

I find that having a clip of the POV character at the start of a lyrical line really helps to pin down the POV, when done often enough.

Ooh, love me some Angel! Is how the first character sees the other canon? If so, is there some snippet of dialogue you can include at the beginning that might convey this is their opinion? You can either run it over the credits, or have the video along with it and put it before the credits. I've used that particular method in a few vids - at the beginning of Fallen I've got a soundbite of Cordy saying "I'm sorry" to portray that the vid was about her regret of all that had happened leading up through to You're Welcome. And in Flagpole Sitta I have Daniel saying "I'm going to need a doctor" or something similar, because the vid is all about him getting whumped mercilessly. I've done it as a mood-setter for my Secretary vid, too.

Ooh, thanks for the tips, both of you! @obsessive24, I'd been struggling with figuring out where to show the pov character, so that's very useful advice. Makes sense. littleheaven, The pov is my interpretation of canon anyway, and I can think of some dialogue that would work well for such a purpose. Now we'll just see if I can do it in a way that doesn't come off hokey. When I first started watching vids I didn't care for that technique for that reason, but since then I've seen it done well. I'll take a look at your examples when I'm off work!

Not at all. Some of my reaction was me being new to vidding and its conventions, some of it was the particular dialogue that the vidder chose, dialogue that worked in the scene but felt slightly over the top outside of that context.
Also, I almost died of happiness/heartbreak at your Cordelia vid!
