Getting back to the original question - 'Why haven't you started?' That's easy: CLIPPING!!!!

I am - totally. But it's also true. My ultimate vid ide - well, the one that got me into vidding, is a BtVS thingy. And the idea of clipping 7 season +/- some Angel eps, it's just a total vidbunny repellent. That before I even start thinking about vidding with source in two different formats. Aaaaaaaargh! as the Mutant Enemy would say. There's a reason I've only been vidding episodics, or season arcs or shows that got cancelled after the first season.

But just think of how good you'll feel when you've accomplished the vid! Plus, rewatching all of BtVS/AtS should never be a chore.

Amnisias, have you seen Vrya's Buffyverse Dialogue Database? It contains scripts from all of Buffy and Angel, with sections categorized not only by episode but also by character, pairing, and arc. E.g., if I wanted to make a vid about Dennis the Ghost Roomate, I could get a rundown of all scenes involving him my choosing this link from the "Arcs" section. Because the database is oriented toward dialogue, not visuals, it won't be totally comprehensive, but it could make the task less daunting and at least give you an idea of episodes to start with, help jog your memory of what happened where, etc.

Oh man, is the database still up? I haven't been in ages. It was my go to place for quotes back in the days. But with the way I clip and the conxept I've got in mind I don't think it would be much help - because it's all about the visuals, the colours, internal motion, context etc. I can't see a way around actually rewatching the whole series and making notes as I go along. Hence - hasn't happened yet. And might never do...

That's part of the problem - it never is - I get so caught up in what's happening that I completely forget to take notes. I just end up watching and flailing... *I'm a disgrace to all vidders*

I hear that. At one point this spring I thought I was going to make a Buffy clip database that included color and motion notes, but I got about 10 minutes into one episode and realized it was never going to happen. I'd lose all interest in vidding (or, you know, Buffy) well before I'd finish such a project. I'd just have to rely on memory.

amnisias: Okay, I hear you on that one. I have this really perfect song for a Ted/Robin vid but the thought of ripping and rewatching seven seasons of How I Met Your Mother, even though I absolutely love that show, has been a dealbreaker so far ...

One time when rewatching BtVS/AtS, I tried to take very comprehensive vid notes which would basically serve for all future vids ever, but I soon realised there's no way that can be done. There are just so many elements that you have to know exactly what you're looking for before you'd even think to write them down.

@obsessive24: yeah, I tried that too, before the clip database. Haven't looked at them once since the last time I made an entry, for exactly the same reason.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a searchable clip archive for Buffy where all clips are tagged with ALL THE TAGS possible and you can find whatever you need at to push of a button.

When I was making Flagpole Sitta (basically an archive of all Daniel Jackson's injuries on Stargate) I was delighted to discover these were all listed, by episode, on the Stargate Wiki. My clip research was done for me! *\O/* And yet it still took 18 months to make the darn vid.

If I ever again work a job with lots of boring graveyard shifts, I vow I will make this happen.
