... dude, Baltar to "Bohemian Rhapsody," I can utterly see that. Damn.

... and oh, I've just had another idea that I am really not going to follow through on:
I am not, NOT going to admit that the movie of The Golden Compass exists for however long it would take for me to see if, using the deleted scenes and a shit-ton of external source, I could spatchcock together something about Lord Asriel and Mrs Coulter that doesn't make me want to spit acid like a Jurassic Park dinosaur.
(grumble mumble mutter that kiss in the snow was a formative moment of my early adolescence mutter mutter)

Hmm, very cool idea! It's good that both of them are big name actors so at least you won't have trouble finding external footage. Natalie - I really like that idea because the various segments of music very much represents Baltar in his various "incarnations". And I haven't seen the idea vidded, personally. Although I tend to agree it'd probably be better being one of those things that you keep up your sleeve until you're a bit more familiar with the editing part of things. Elipie - Ah, I love the Disney idea! Puts me in mind of missbreese's recent Disney multi vid, although that one wasn't specifically about female characters. I love it! I was actually gonna do a Disney Princess collab with a bunch of friends (and then go to Club Vivid all dressed up as Disney princesses), but that didn't pan out, unfortunately.

I can understand the hesitation to vid "iconic" songs but I wouldn't let that in and of itself stop you, especially when the idea works really well. I agree with thatyourefuse and Nicky - I can totally see that for Baltar. But if you're concerned about fully living up to the vision in your head and want to improve your skills a bit first, that's totally understandable. On another note, I fully encourage Disney princess vids from anyone and everyone.

DC - any chance of us doing a Disney Princess collab this year, mayhaps?

LOL, maybe we should start a donation fund. DC will dress up as Jasmine, naturally. I suppose I'll be relegated to Mulan, whose outfits aren't so shiny. Boos.

DC - any chance of us doing a Disney Princess collab this year, mayhaps? lol, that would be totally fun. ;D The only potential problem is that I have qualifying exams in early May, so I likely wouldn't be able to work on it much right before that, which might be tricky if it's meant to be a CVV vid? Hey now don't complain about Mulan, she's the most badass princess.

... yeah, see, that's the problem.
I'm already thinking "yeah, okay, the Jane Campion Portrait of a Lady came out in '96, that's an eleven-year difference, close enough to work as a flashback, and I bet the clothes would pass if I could figure out how to get it any less FUCKING DARK; I wonder what out of his filmography; and I figure it's probably time to fall back on symbolism and start sourcing nature documentaries; and I don't have a song EXACTLY but it'd have to be instrumental anyway and I've got a shedload of Michael Nyman I've been wanting to do something with..."
And I really really don't want to admit the movie exists, dammit.
But. Baby's first OTP, though. (Yes, yes, that does in fact kind of explain everything, I know.)

Currently don't have an ultimate vid idea. I did once though and it took me nearly a year to pluck up the courage to tackle it. Just because I loved the source so much that screwing up was the stumbling block, plus the song was so long it needed substantial editing. legoline Plenty of room in my opinion for more epic HP vids - like everyone says - there are so many different approaches you could take. And when I find a song I shall probably have a go too, hopefully you'll find your song. Most ideas are hampered by needing to rewatch multiple seasons of TV shows/ trawl through source to find clips. Suddenly editing vids from single film sources look so appealing.

I've had a few floating around my head for years, but hearing one of the songs again the other day really solidified my Ultimate Vid Idea.
It's a Carnivale fanvid, set to Wax Audio's "Dissolved by the Water All These Years" (a mashup of Tori Amos's "Silent All These Years", PJ Harvey's "Down By the Water", Bjork's "Cover Me", and Massive Attack's "Dissolved Girl"). The vid in my head is lengthy and epic, with overlapping POV's - PJ is the Dreifuss ladies, Tori is Iris, Bjork is Sofie and Appie - and a creepy and dark aesthetic like the show.
And okay, I just really need to match Iris Crowe to the lyric "I've got the Antichrist in the kitchen yelling at me", and Appie's silent screaming to "come back here and give me my daughter", and Dora Mae in Babylon to "my lovely daughter, I took her home".
I am going to need a hell of a lot of vidding under my belt before I even attempt this, though.
