I don't know if it's cause and effect or just simply coincidence, but I've been feeling so creatively productive since the forum started. I think I might be psyching myself up enough to attempt my Ultimate Vid Idea once my current two projects are off my plate. ;D There's so much source to wade through, but one thing I've learned is that it's okay to treat my vidding process primarily as a source-watching process. And the clip-grabbing on the way just feels secondary, but by the end of it, somehow I end up with a vid. It's just like watching TV, but in a productive way! ;D

My ultimate vid idea is a BSG vid set to Led Zeppelin's Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, which is freaking epic (over 6 minutes!), and I'm not nearly skilled enough to pull that off yet. Someday it'll happen, once I have a lot more vidding practice under my belt.

I think I may have found a song for my epic childhood video. It's Blood Brothers by Springsteen and it's a little more mellow than I'd like. I'm not sure if I should take the vid in that direction but I'll put the song in a folder whilst I'm still gathering source material, just in case ;D
Here's the song, for the curious.

killabeez: the nostalgic vibe is what I particularly like about it, too. Ah, I watched Super 8 yesterday and now I want to do that vid more than ever. I've been randomly putting DVDs on my Amazon wishlist now that I might need for the video (I have most of these films, but on video tape). Among these are Explorers, E.T., The Sandlot, My Girl, Now & Then (that one's only affordable as an NTSC import) and I'm still considering Mighty Ducks. I already own Stand By Me, The Goonies, The War, The Bad News Bears (the Walter Matthau one) and Super 8. I bet I've forgotten a few classics, haven't I? I'll browse Amazon some more (Must consider The Cure and perhaps Radio Flyer)

And I hope you do include Radio Flyer! It is so heartbreaking, but Elijah Wood and Joe Mazzello as babies are just so cute. Also, that song is amazing. I think it'd work really well.

well, actually, if going by the thread title, I *should* say I`ve finished my "Ultimate Vid Idea" already.
In 2010, for my 4th vidding anniversary, I`ve finished a video using a song that has been on my *must vid* list for more than 2 years.
That´s "Ghost Love Score" by Nightwish. I LOVE Nightwish, I`ve used some of their songs for videos already.
When I had the first idea for this song, it was surposed to be a Stargate SG-1 vid, season 9-10, the fight against the Ori. I even managed to get a first draft for this video. Then, the vid bunny went on vacation, location unknown, for more than 2 years.
While thinking about what to do for the anniversary, I remembered the unfinished SG-1 video.
At the end, I`ve decided to use the song for a tribute vid to not only the the song, but my favorite tv shows also.
I didn´t cut the song , I never, not once, thought about cutting something as awesome as "Ghost Love Score".
It took a long time to decide which shows to use, after I knew which ones, it took even longer to place the shows in the vid. It`s a song with a lot of instrumental parts, a lot of change in beats and feelings, I wanted to place everything where I thought it belonged.
Once this was done, and I got around to actually start working on the vid, it took *only* 4 weeks until it was done. Not this long, for a 10 minute monster of a video. But, I`ve spent each and every spare minute working on it, day and night.
But, like said, I also had this vid in my head for more than 2 year,s before I started working on it for real.
so, this is it, the (random) story of my Ultimate Vid.
At this time, as things go (and I have the weirdest ideas at times) it seems I`m aiming for another vid like this.
By now I`d say my "Ultimate Vid Idea" (once again) is "Hurricane" by 30 Seconds to Mars.
I Love the song, I wanna vid it, no matter how.
At first I thought: great, I`m gonna do a monster of a Supernatural video using "Hurricane".
then, it was posted by someone else, a SPN vid, using "Hurricane". I thought *DAMN"
Some friends said they don`t care if it`s been done 100 times already, they wanna see what I`m doing with it in combination with Supernatural.
I STILL would love to use it for SPN (I don´t really care how many times a song has been used for a certain show already), but IMO it would be more challenging if I use it for NCIS.
It fits NCIS, my NCIS. I guess once started I can´t stop, but so far I couldn´t make myself start working on it.
I don´t want to mess it up. Maybe this is the real reason why it took me more than 2 years to get "Ghost Love Score" done, I didn`t want to mess it up.
At times I put a lot of preasure on myself, even more when I`m working with a song/theme/character I really love, most of the time this keeps me from getting started in the first place.

Here's a new one that I'll eventually tackle--in about 1 1/2 years when Man of Steel is released on DVD. I really want to make a tribute to Superman vid with footage from the original movies, Smallville, Lois & Clark, Superman Returns and Man of Steel--maybe some animated series if I have watched them by then. And maybe some images from the comics. I really love Superman. I know everybody thinks he's boring but I'm really fond of him :-) So. Maybe in about one and a half years I'll get around to do it.

That sounds ambitious but very cool. How will you structure everything together?

I'm not quite sure yet, to be honest. I guess one approach would be to do it chronologically, like starting out with the comics and ending on the recent movie. Or you could do it chronologically with regard to Clark/Superman himself (crashing on earth, Smallville, Metropolis etc.) or thematically of course. Friends, foes, loved ones...hm. I guess a lot would hang on the chosen song. Which I don't have yet. I thought "Land of Confusion" might be fun because it has the "Superman where are you now/The Man of Steel, the Man of Power" lines but the more I think about it the more I realise the tone of the song isn't quite right. At least this time I can start early on the quest to find a better one.

That sounds pretty cool. I really like the idea of including the comics, though I can see how that'd be difficult.
My "ultimate" vid idea is a Dwight (from the US version of The Office) character vid set to something from the Battlestar Galactica score, possibly including some BSG source as well. Obviously this wouldn't be that epic in scope or in accessing source material. What makes it an ultimate idea for me is that I picture it a comedy vid, which is very intimidating. How do people pull such things off? That will definitely be a new frontier for me, vidding-wise, if I ever get to it.
