Who is thinking of going to Vividcon 2012? For those who are unfamiliar, this is a vidding convention held in Chicago usually in early/mid August each year. There are vidshows and panels and a dance party. Attendance is around 100 - 150(?) people. Check out the site and feel free to ask questions here if you're thinking of attending. I didn't think I was going to make it, since I was planning a trip to Vegas earlier in 2012, but it looks like the Vegas trip could potentially be delayed and end up dovetailing with VVC, which would be awesome. So I'm crossing my fingers for that.

I'd like to do VVC again, but it depends on the dates. I've already registered for Worldcon, which is also in Chicago in 2012, so it would be really, really nice if VVC could be the weekend just before that. Then I could do both in one long trip.

Meeeeeeee. Or at least I'm hoping to, gotta make sure it doesn't overlap with my annual conference. Crossing my fingers that'll it work out! Especially if you're coming.

I am currently planning to go. I'm hoping to either have a different teaching position next year or that vvc doesn't happen the same time as my school starts. I swore to my self that I would go and I was serious!

It's probably too early to plan because everything is so contingent on specific dates, but Oooh, I so want to go, especially if lots and lots of my homies are going, but of course their going is similarly dependent on dates and who else is going. Vicious cycle!

I really want to go! This year was my first time and I went in a kind of official capacity, which was fun and interesting but not exactly the same as being able to just kick back and enjoy the vids and cool peoples.
It'll just depend on the funds (or lack thereof-sigh) since my grad program leaves us entirely on our own for the summers.

rokikurama was this your badge name at this year's con? I don't remember meeting you, unfortunately. (But if we did and I forgot, it's totally my bad - I was very drunk pretty much all weekend.) What official capacity were you in?

I rolled over my registration to next year because we had VidUKon and the prices for flights to the US were just too silly to be justifiable for what's essentially a long weekend trip.
So hopefully, next year I'll go again!

amnisias - agreed on the weekend trip aspect. If I go, then I go for at least a week. The first time I went (2008) we just arrived early and stayed behind late and did some touristy things in Chicago. This year I went to stay with Bradcpu and Milly after the con. If I do go again next year, it'll be half VVC and half Vegas. It just doesn't really justify the 9 hour flight and the ESTA if you are only going for 3 days.

I really really would like to be there this year. Tbh I have never been to a Con, so it would be fantastic to manage to attend at least once. Still indecisive though, because some Con in the UK is definitely easier to reach for me...but hey, I can dream.
But damn, at least ONCE in life I need to go to one of these things.

Too bad there isnt' going to be a vidukon 2012, but maybe 2013? We can dream! In the meantime, keep in mind the VVC scholarship may still be a viable option. They didn't have a recipient for 2011 so maybe theoretically this means more funds for the 2012 recipient? (Not sure exactly how it works.)

Heh, I thought I'd already responded here. Haven't missed it in 7 years, don't plan on breaking that streak. Will be there with bells on! And glitter.

Really wish I could go again next year but that will probably be really tough financially so I don't think I'll manage to afford it that soon. But you never know...

That's tempting as hell, because wow, 2013?! That's so far away! Next year would probably best for me. I'll definitely stay tuned this time around.
