Me! I'll be there! Unless I actually get to go to Africa for this thing (which is looking extremely unlikely) I don't think Eunice will *allow* me to miss.

Wow, Africa! If you went, where would you be going? Is it for work?

Opportunity to drink heavily, humiliate myself in public, and make people watch my vids? I'm there!
(No, but seriously, last time was awesome.)

Both xlorp and I are hoping to make it again this year. Or next year (2012).

dragonchic - I'm surprised that qualifying doesn't happen earlier! When will they know? I was surprised too! The US track and field trials are in late June. I suppose it makes sense though, you'd want people who were in top form right before the actual event. It would be awesome if you came Mister A!!! ;D And would make me extra-hopeful that the timing works out for me this year.

I definitely plan to be there. I haven't missed a VVC yet. If they do move it to the weekend before Worldcon, that would make it more difficult for me since that is a very difficult week to be gone from work.
I really wish more of the foreign folk could come and I wish I had a way to bend time and space to make that easier. We're geeks. Can't somebody just wave their hands and do that?
I've actually been thinking lately about the possibility of attending the con virtually and wondering how difficult that would be to set up. A lot of people have iPads or Droids now and it might be fun to put a neck strap around one and carry Mr. Anderson around like he was Dr. Theopolis or something. Beedybeedy.
I wouldn't want it to turn into something that would make another job for the concom but, it might be fun to try to work out the practical issues involved.
Would we be able to get decent connectivity? How much would it cost to stream the entire convention all weekend long? Would some attending members consider it a violation of their privacy to have it live-streamed to Godknowswhere? Would a virtual attendee have to pay to register?

OMG I love this idea more than words to say. "Now walk me over there, slave!" ;D For me, the main issue is going to be the privacy one. I'm not bothered by it personally, but from various discussions, I get the feeling (and the reasoning of) some attendees would be very privacy-conscious and wouldn't want to transmit their image anywhere, even if if it's two-way and even if you get guarantees on that it'll only be to the house of one person who you know online, or even someone who'd been to the con before.

For me, the main issue is going to be the privacy one. I definitely agree. Even if we wave our hands and magically get the tech to work, I know of at least 5 or 6 people who would really have a problem with it in practice and I know the con com is really committed to preserving VVC as a safe space. It would be easy enough to allow it for someone who was a known quantity - like if Killa or Nicky wanted to attend virtually - but, such a thing would require rules and you can't make rules that apply to one set of people and not another without seeming to be cliquish and exclusive - another thing the concom tries to avoid.

Wow, Africa! If you went, where would you be going? Is it for work? I have a summer practicum for grad school I have to complete -- I want to do it working with this agency in Ghana. So far there are many obstacles -- chiefly money (paying for the trip and the tuition and everything) and the inability to take a leave of absence from work (and also living without a paycheck for however long I am there). But I really want to go. Although if Mr. A thinks this is the VVC he might make, I'd not want to miss that either. He made the Tombstone vid of my heart.

The dates have been confirmed for Fri Aug 10th - Sun Aug 12th. First on the agenda - Club Vivid sign-ups in two weeks' time!! Everyone got their ducks in a row?
I was freaking out earlier because I had absolutely no viable idea, but this morning while walking to work, the best/worst idea hit me in the face and now I'm SUPER EXCITED.

I can't attend but my CVV idea is firmly entrenched, and I've just finished reviewing my source and making clip notes. My song is horrific, haha.

My song is just a regular song, but the subject matter... that's a different story!

I have a couple CVV ideas, but the one I'm working on right now is... either fantastic or horrible both music-wise and fandom-wise, depending on how you want to look at it.
