I'm hoping to get my festivid done today too, at least a first draft. I have about 25 seconds left but it's the hardest part for me. Trying to just push it through and get it done early.

jackiek YES! Go you! The new copy of the DVD came today! (Wow, amazon.co.uk, you are fast) I really hope I can finish the treat after all. After all, editing the song nearly gave me a nervous breakdown, so admitting defeat for technical issues is actually not an option ;D EDIT: Different DVD but it gives me the same error message. So it must be on the source somewhere...

I'm sorry to hear that Legoline. What an extreme bummer to have gone through all that trouble and still have it not work! Who's still frantically working on their vids? *waves pom poms* you can do it! (When's the deadline, btw?)

Hey, Legoline! Is it possible the error message is a type of copy protection? Some copy protects are hard to beat - have you tried AnyDVD? www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html? I haven't tried it myself; I'm told it's very useful - I think (not sure) you run it in the background and then use whatever other program you're using to rip. O24 - the deadline for assignment vids is this Saturday! Treats can come in later, though :-).

legoline - If it turns out the error is due to copy protection, you can also try DVDFab HD Decrypter www.dvdfab.com/free.htm. When I had an issue ripping a DVD due to copy protection, and none of my usual methods worked, DVDFab was the only thing that worked. What you can also do is google "<DVD name here> ripping error" and see if other people have had trouble. That's how I found DVDFab above. But speaking of Festivids, after a frustrating and arduous journey I have finally submitted my Festivid! Now on to making treats where no one will know if I miss the due date!

legoline - Is the source available through *cough* non-DVD means? Could be a workaround.
Congrats to everyone who's finished and good luck to everyone in the home stretch! ;D I finished my third treat and think with that I'm done (have other ideas but making three vids back to back is a bit tiring).

I use AnyDVD and it's brilliant. Initially I got it because hubby's DVD drive got stuck on region 1 (New Zealand is region 4) and we couldn't change it back. AnyDVD removes copy protection and region coding in the background while you are playing (or "backing up") your DVD through whatever program you choose. It does cost to buy it but I wouldn't be without it on a vidding computer.
My Festivid was submitted before Christmas, but I have another I am trying to get done before go-live. I've done 35seconds of that in one sitting, which is practically a world speed record for me. ;D

I second DVDFab. (At least I think it's DVDFab. It's the one that's included in the later versions of the AMVApp.) I usually default to DVD Decrypter, but if it doesn't work then DVDFab is usually a good back-up option for me.

I've used AnyDVD for a good 5 years and it's always helped me. The only time it didn't was with the Wall.E DVD because it has some extra protection on it but I think it was DVDFab that got round that in the end. AnyDVD does cost a small amount but I think it's invaluable.

Thanks everybody for your comments and help You are the best. Seriously, thank you for all the encouraging feedback! At the moment it looks like SV might be able to work with the corrupted file despite the error message that VDM is giving me, so I'm frantically working on the vid now and hoping my luck holds. If it doesn't I'll try out AnyDVD or DVD Fab. I usually use DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink for ripping DVDs, maybe the other softwares can do the trick But as I said, mildly hopeful for now. giandujakiss Not sure--it's a fairly old DVD; I think it must be at least ten years old. It was one of the first DVDs I bought when we got our first DVD player. I'm tempted to blame the error message on the age or perhaps the DVD commentaries that seem to be hard-coded on the source somehow. The new DVD I got is basically identical to my German one, except that the main setting is English, not German. That said, I just erased all of my timeline and started over, edited more out of the song and actually went through the song again and devided it into "theme batches", with time information and everything. I originally was going for a "chronological" vid but I love the source so much (hence why it's one of my oldest DVDs) that I felt my initial approach probably wouldn't do it any justice. Vidding, it is hard.

Awesome, glad it's finally working!
I should point out that AnyDVD does not rip, it just decrypts in the background. I use the free programme SmartRipper and import the resultant .vob files directly into Vegas (with AnyDVD running to remove any nasties during the rip). It makes the file prep process so much quicker.
