Who's doing Festivids and how are you getting on with your assignments? I haven't been involved with Festivids, so would love to hear how y'all are getting on.

Yep, I'm doing it for a second year, I had so much fun last year. It's great for shaking out the vidding cobwebs and just forcing yourself to get something - ANYTHING - down on a timeline. Brilliant for vidder's block. So far... I thought I'd finished reviewing my source but I might expand the pool a little more. I've done the opening titles of the vid and snipped the song down to a more deadline-friendly length. Now I'm starting to freak out a little, LOL.

I'm participating for the first time and I'm very nervous about it.
I've been doing a lot of thinking and chosing music, and then listening to that song a lot to pin down where to start new chunks of the vid's narrative etc, but nothing more than that.

This is my second year and I'm almost done with a rough draft of the vid. Like last year, I only offered to vid sources that I love and could easily conceive of finding music for. Both last year and this year my recipient has had a vision of what they want that meshes well with want I want to do. I don't know if that's luck, the vidding gods smiling on me or fantastic planning by the festivid staff.
Of all the sources that I requested, I really, really wish my vidder would do Good Eats. There shoud be tons of Good Eats vids instead of none.

Me, me, me!!! I had a full draft of my main assignment within a week of getting it, but it's taking longer to settle down and get it into shape/fix it. I'm actually sort of nervous about it because saying I have a strong emotional connection to the source is a bit of an understatement and it would break my heart if I didn't do right by it for my recipient.
Getting a jump on the main assignment means I am excited about possibly doing more than one treat though, 'cause I actually have TIME this year. ;D

I love when Festivids comes around because it means I get to vid something that I wouldn't normally vid which is very exciting for me. I also have ideas for like 4 treats I want to do although the chances of all of them happening is somewhat low But I have nearly finished reviewing the source for my main assignment and my song is all picked so I am very close to laying my first clip down.

I love when Festivids comes around because it means I get to vid something that I wouldn't normally vid which is very exciting for me.. same thing here! i absoultely love festivids - i'm participating the third time & i love how it makes me try such different things than i usually would. plus it doesn't have the pressure of something like an auction vid; at least to me it doesn't - it's so much easier to make someone a gift!vid than to make someone a vid that's been paid for. so far festivids has been one big ball of fun for me ... everyone is always so excited & happy about their awesome little fandoms. that said, of course i don't have any good idea for my festivid(s) yet. none whatsover. *sigh* but still, i'm not really worried yet.

This is my first festivids. I got really excited when I got my assignment and made a vidlet straightaway. I'm not sure whether it'll be the one I use or if I'll add it as a treat yet, but I've not had any more inspiration so far. I've got a safety so I know my source pretty well, I'm just struggling with music choices

Festivids \o/!
I am so excited about my fandom and my song choice, I smile every time I think about it! Unfortunately work's been a nightmare so I haven't had much time to vid, but I'm due for a vacation soon and I hope to get a draft done then.

I had an idea for the fandom I matched on but my recipient asked for something very different and I wasn't sure I could do that, but really wanted to and then I found the perfect song and now I can do it! \o/

I'm in for my third year. My first two years it was much easier to figure out my general focus, this year I just have waaaaay too many options. I haven't narrowed at all, I keep waiting for a song to fall in my lap. I might just start vidding ridiculous songs to make myself start clipping and motivate myself to find something better. :-)

I was really surprised to match on what I did (no spoilers though :-p) It's a source I've always wanted to make a video for even though I haven't watched it in a long time, and, fortunately, I share a favorite character with my requester.
I'm a little worried about time (re: work eats me) since I'm just finishing my first vid and it's only, um, like a minute and a half long o_0 but figure that's pretty natural. I have a great song after much deliberation and have cut it down from a very unfriendly 9 minutes.

This is my third Festivids and I am as excited ever, I love it a lot. I've got my song, which is a relief, but I haven't had time to rewatch the source yet and I've got a couple of other projects to finish up first so it's all on the back burner for now. But I think my recipient will like it, fingers crossed!

I'm doing my third festivids this year! I love festivids so much, omg. I'm about 3/4 of the way through the first draft of my assignment vid, and I think it's going to be pretty cool! I'm a little nervous because it's got a kind of atmosphere that I've never tried vidding before, so it feels like new territory. Also I've never vidded with this little source before (I'm the kind of person who always makes either giant multifandom vids or vids for tv shows with at least a few seasons under their belt) so I'm a little freaked out by how close I'm coming to plain running out of source.
Anyway! all that said, I'm having a ball. And since it looks like I'm going to get my assignment done early, I'm already clipping for my first treat vid. And hey, if I get that done early, I'll make another treat vid! I've got like ten treats that I'd like to make, but I'll be thrilled just to make one.

so I'm a little freaked out by how close I'm coming to plain running out of source. Don't panic! As someone whose done a whole lot of movie and episodic vids, I know that feeling well but mostly what it requires is a shift in perspective. With source that is sprawling you're often trying to wrangle several different scenes into one point, which can lead to some really cool stuff. But from the other side taking one scene and putting a laser focus on it can be just as effective and stretch your source. It's also a really great opportunity to linger and practice a level of restraint in visuals that isn't always possible when you need to encompass three years worth of whatever. Try sitting with a given clip and seeing where the limit is on drawing out tension or letting an emotion sink in. It can be really uncomfortable at first, with that thought in the back of your head 'I should be moving on, why am I not moving on yet?'....kind of like the opposite of learning to cut really fast. Also, don't be scared to keep coming back to an individual scene...breaking it up across a chunk of your vid and coming back to it repeatedly can do interesting things. There's usually plenty of footage for a whole vid in a short source if you tilt your head to one side and look at it from a different angle
