Oh, Festivids. I seem to be falling into the same pattern as the last two years: get super excited, find a song, start rewatching/clipping...and then peter out thinking I have plenty of time until I only have a few weeks and then I start freaking out and spend all my time frantically vidding to the deadline. So this year I found a song (two, one for a treat as well) and started clipping both sources. But now I'm really stuck and am having a hard time even opening up Premiere. I still want to do both ideas, I have lots of love for them (although I love one more than the other which makes me reconsider one of my song choices) but IDK maybe it's the clipping or just plain ol procrastination but I'm having trouble getting myself to do it. Even other vid ideas not for Festivids are giving me trouble. Argh.
I totally agree with Absolutedestiny, make what makes YOU happy. If they specifically mentioned something they dislike, probably better not to do it but besides that, go with your heart.

Absolutedestiny - Thank you! That puts my mind at ease! Littleheaven - If it helps, I know I personally had to sit around pondering what to request in my festivids letter. I didn't really have any preferences but I thought it'd be more annoying to say nothing than to toss out some ideas on things I adore. At the end of the day, I sort of think that since you (universal you) have to sign your name on the vid, you should do whatever showcases your talents best (and whichever you had the most fun doing . That's my thoughts on it. That I say, not so much that I do (I must bond with you over the desire to make everyone happy. Completely frustrating, but I can't seem to stop)

To everyone, who is worrying about if their recipient will like their gift vid: Do what you want, have fun and share the love! HAVE FUN! That is the key.
Just a remark: writing a "dear festividder" letter was optional only, not every vidder did this. And the rules are clear: just the matching on fandom is expected.

T Just a remark: writing a "dear festividder" letter was optional only, not every vidder did this. And the rules are clear: just the matching on fandom is expected. Exactly! I really just want vids to the fandoms I requested -- the Dear Festividder letter is mostly if someone wanted to make a treat, this would be the only way they'd have to know what fandoms you asked for. What I can say? Try not to default. I've been so lucky to have received awesome vids from pinch-hitters, but I can't lie -- seeing your requests go up for a pinch hit? Kinda sucks.

Just jumping in to say - LD and I are both aware of your history, sisabet, and as God is our witness - your requests will not go up for pinch hits this year :-).

Just randomly--is anyone else reading these posts going, "I wonder if they're talking about my vid"? ;D

Just randomly--is anyone else reading these posts going, "I wonder if they're talking about my vid"? ;D Yes! I keep thinking, "The chances of someone here talking about your requests is highly unlikely, do not make a post saying anything about it." (Though, since I'm here, I will love anything, anything at all. The mere fact that someone is dedicating time and energy to me makes me squee, let alone it being a fandom I adore!)

legoline and missbreese Yes! Me too! This is my first year doing Festivids and am kind of fascinated by the whole concept since I've always been more of a lurker--the whole idea that someone is making a vid, for me, from a shiny thing that I like is somehow bizarre (though amazing!) and so I'm hyper-paranoid that my Dear Festividder letter wasn't helpful or is confusing or will somehow ruin things for my poor vidder.

missbreese and rokikurama, I'm glad it's not just me ;D Haha, maybe I should state too that you can all be pirates and use my Dear Vidder letter as guidelines or even completely ignore them, for at the end of the day, I'll have a vid! Whee! Too, I was really struggling with my Dear Vidder letter in the first place because everyone else seemed to have such clear ideas about what they wanted while I just thought, "I don't care! Anything will do!" (Oh God, I hope I didn't just totally crush my vidder who wrecked his brain to fill my prompt only to find out now that really, anything would have been cool... )

Anything will do!" Exactly! I, um, couldn't even exactly remember all of the fandoms I had requested when it came time to write and couldn't figure out how to get back to my form I knew the series and such, but I had ended up requesting a few movies that are on my love list but not necessarily consciously in my fandom brain. My letter ended up being basically "yeah, so those notes I wrote on the form, those are cool and also so is anything else! I love all music!" (laughs) I will say again here, though, what I said in Nicky's WIP thread--editing things onto the timeline basically as you clip is really fun. I just got started with that last night and am enjoying making my Festivid much more than I did my first vid!

This thread makes me happy! And yes, I actually forget the part where I'm getting a vid TOO a lot and then I have to go look up what I requested again and get all excited, because whatever I get in any of those fandoms would be AWESOME. rokikurama - Editing while you clip is super fun (and a great way to distract from the boring tedium of it. Imma plug avisynth here, because it makes it super easy to do both at the same time, and have all your source available at your fingertips without filling up your hard drive.

I'm a little worried about time (re: work eats me) since I'm just finishing my first vid and it's only, um, like a minute and a half long o_0 but figure that's pretty natural. I have a great song after much deliberation and have cut it down from a very unfriendly 9 minutes. I'm in this process myself. I'm sure somebody can make an amazing 9-minute vid, but not me and not this year. I already feel like I'm behind on music editing and source reviewing. Ha ha ha. (Where will I find the time to make treats! Oh no!)

I am doing festivids and seem to be locked in a loop where I play solitaire every time I sit at my computer instead of putting things down on the time line.
My roommate got her assignment much later than I did and her vid is already done.
And it's awesome.
And I hate her.

Is it bad to say I haven't started yet? I haven't started yet. But hey, last year I didn't start until mid-December and got two done! But, erm, yes, I'll get started earlier than that this year, so I can make all the treats I want to make. I like the idea of clipping and editing at the same time! I started vidding to a new fall show (not for festivids) and have been clipping each episode as it airs so it won't feel like such a burden later on. It seems to be working really well so far, even though that's not really an option for older/longer TV shows.

franzeska Hee hee--exactly. The 3 minutes or so on my timeline now are much, much better (laughs). It'd be an interesting experiment to try, but I sense Festivids is not the moment for that to happen.
