I dunno, I don't remember worrying about that since my Britney Spears RPS vid back in early 08. (Which really was the most obvious thing ever and someone would have made the exact same vid if I didn't beat them to it.) Mostly I take comfort in the belief that my brain works too weirdly for my vids to come out the same as other people's. ;D

With treating, does anyone else get that slight anxiety that someone else is going to make the exact same vid as you? OhGodyes. Particularly because I feel like my treat is such an obvious choice that about fourhundred people picked it as well. Also, what if the assigned vidder picked it as their "official" vid? That would be a little awkward, too--right?

Ahh I'm not the only one! That's exactly it, legoline.

My main fear is vidding the same source (and by association a similar concept) as the person who was assigned it. I really want my treats to be 'extra' and not to inadvertently step on the toes of someone who was the original assignee. Festivids is about variety - I'd love to be able to find out, as a treat-maker, what source the assignee was vidding to (like by being able to send them an anonymous message that they could return anonymously if they wanted to).
I remember when commenting on the three Dirty Dancing videos I received last year that I wanted to thank give special thanks to assignee and not knowing even which video was a treat and which was an assignment made that hard. Maybe that part will be different this year?

I remember when commenting on the three Dirty Dancing videos I received last year that I wanted to thank give special thanks to assignee and not knowing even which video was a treat and which was an assignment made that hard. Maybe that part will be different this year? The upload form does let you specify. Did it last year? Presumably, it would be possible for the mods to indicate which are which. I felt a little awkward last year too. It was obvious someone I gave a treat to couldn't tell, and having treated in a bigger, more squee-filled fandom, I kind of felt like I was stealing someone's thunder even though my vid was nothing at all like the others. But, predictably, I only care about that if I'm treating. If it's my assigned vid, I don't care how many other people vid the same thing or give my recipient a better present.

I think there's a specific note in the festivids comm that warns people that random treats may fly in and steal their thunder and if they think they can't deal with that, they should think twice about participating. Which, wow, ominous, but at least I guess participants have been warned it might happen?

That would be a great option. Like you said, I don't want to steal someone's thunder. Maybe this could be addressed for next year's Festivids. Perhaps it could be indicated on Golive which vids are assigned ones and which are treats (or is there a special reason why the Mods don't?). If someone receives three vids two of them are bound to be treats after all.

Treat submitted and never has a vid caused such friction in my household. All is well now though and fingerscrossed I can fit one more in.

Sounds like there was much drama! What happened, if you care to share? (But understandable if you don't ) Anyway, glad to hear it's been submitted. ;D

Oh just the usual vidder angst and the final straw was the beta process which was agony for both me and the other half with lot's of misunderstandings. Joyful stuff. Shan't say any more...

Because it's More Joy Day stats have been posted to the festivids comm...
We have 150 videos, made by 110 vidders, across 129 fandoms, totalling 7 hours 15 minutes and 58 seconds of play time.
That's pretty amazing.

Woohoo! No way I am getting through all of those next weekend, LOL.
I bet that total will go up by another 10-15 too, with all the treats in progress. ;D
