I used to do the intermediate exports too. Besides seeing differences in how things looked on the timeline versus the export it was also nice to have the vid accessible outside of Premiere so I could rewatch it when I wasn't working on it and have some time to think about potential changes. But that seemed to work better when A) I didn't vid on a separate computer and B) I plowed through vids in 2-5 consecutive days. Now that I have to vid on a separate laptop and only occasionally have time to work on the vid I'm finding it better to be able to turn off my vidding brain and not think about it in between editing sessions. Of course that's probably "better" for my school productivity and not so much the vid, heh. Speaking of, Smash vid is almost done but may have to go on the backburner for a couple weeks or even a month as I plow through end-of-term work combined with the first half of 2nd year quals. I should use it as motivation to try to get my 2nd year paper done faster, lol. Maybe if I make decent progress every day I can reward myself with some vidding.

I just started a True Blood vid, which I will not give up on before it's done, like many other projets I still want to vid GoT too, but ambitious projects tend to never get done cause I don't have enough time, which sucks. So it's great to see other people are vidding that show ! I can't wait to see it!

thuvia - what's your SPN vid going to be about? dragonchic - How do you find vidding on a separate laptop? Easier to get motivated or harder? It feels to me like it'd be harder... but you're usually pretty motivated anyway, so maybe it's not much of an issue. buffyann - wow, that came out of left field! ;D Is it gen or specific character/ship? I will stand behind you and crack a whip until you get it done.

Funny thing is, I intended to write "I hope I will not give up" but forgot the hope part lol. Now I have to, especially since I will be whipped by you otherwise. :-D What's gen again ? (I suck at terms lol) It's more of an overall thing. Found a song I thought would fit, trying to surf on the wave of creativity before it leaves me LOL

I'd say "gen" = "overall", broadly. And, yay! This should be very cool to watch.

and that not everyone is bored out their skulls with Supernatural. @thuviaparth- At the risk of repeating myself (and being very predictable), I'm very excited (and made squeaking noises) when I saw you were working on an SPN vid.

Oooh, new Alex vid!! Exciting ;D I would also crack the whip but that may be a wee bit hypocritical of me. dragonchic - How do you find vidding on a separate laptop? Easier to get motivated or harder? It feels to me like it'd be harder... but you're usually pretty motivated anyway, so maybe it's not much of an issue. Oh it's definitely a pain. Being able to just boot up Premiere is way easier than having to set up an entirely different laptop. But I think it actually works with my new process. I can't just immerse myself in a vid for days at a time anymore, so having to pull out a separate computer helps keep my vidding time neatly compartmentalized and less of a potential distraction. And of course once I go through the trouble of pulling out said vidding laptop I'm also more motivated to make sure I actually accomplish something with it.

@ killabeez - I never get tired of hearing that. It's a Dean character vid, although I worry about whether it still makes sense with newer seasons and/or whether I should just pick an arbitrary cut-off point and not use any later source.

I have this problem, although more often for comics. And not even shiny colour comics I can imagine combining with other things. Which reminds me that I have to investigate the Ooku film adaptation, because I am convinced 'The Queen and the Soldier' was written for that series.
Current vid project is for festivids, so cannot talk about it. But next I want to make a Raging Phoenix vid to some jangly pop music. (Because god forbid I vid something with a fandom.)

I keep thinking I saw a vid that only comprised still pictures (of the comics variety), but just with a bit of added motion to add visual interest. Can't remember more than that, but it's always stuck in my head as something doable for vidding. Somewhat like a slideshow, I guess, but with more of a vidding sensibility.

Yeah there are some comics vids that are basically still images with movement added. I don't often see them pimped on the regular vidding comm but I remember back when I used to do the veni_vidi_vids roundup for superhero fandoms I used to run into them on fandom-specific comms.

Oh man, this Cap/Iron Man vid about the Civil War arc is EPIC and uses nothing but stills. I am flooorrred by it.
(um, spoilers for Civil War, by the way, if you watch. EPIC)

Does anyone else sort of get the feeling that the mind fills in the action for you, despite it being all stills? That's cool. (Although as I type this I wonder if comics readers are gonna laugh at me because that's what's supposed to happen.) I have to admit the mixed aspect ratios were a bit jarring for me, but maybe that just has to come with the territory.

Some comic book vids crop the panels to fit the screen, though depending on the orientation of the panels you're working with, you can lose a whole lot of the image that way. Other folks zoom in and pan through the image like sisabet does in some of Bad Romance, or go all fancy effects on it and really kind of animate the still using cutouts or timed reveals. For me, the varying panel sizes aren't an issue, but I'm also a comics reader, so maybe I'm used to it? Heh.
