@elpie - Yay for fannish friends and Los Angeles! I've only been there once (for a con, actually), but I liked it. Good luck with the job hunt. thedothatgirl - So jealous that you and Nicky got to see the ENO. Us Americans have to make do with our local companies (though Philly has an excellent Opera company). And I hear you on winter break, because we teachers like it too! I'm looking forward to possibly getting a winter break bartending job, possibly going to my cousin's wedding in Vegas in February (she's getting married at the Excalibur, her reception's going to be the joust, yes, they're giant nerds), and the season finale of Boardwalk this Sunday.

Was it good Nicky or did you snooze? It was good, but I snoozed as well. ;D I've discovered it doesn't matter what I go to see on an evening performance, since we have a pre-theatre dinner, I always end up falling asleep for about 15 minutes sometime during the first Act. Doesn't mean I don't enjoy it, but for some reason I always have to have a nap during the performance. Anyway, Castor & Pollux was good, but quite surrealistic too. It was an English language adaptation of the French(?) original, and the staging was very modern. There was quite a bit more nudity than I was expecting as well. I'm keen to go back and see a more traditional opera to compare. ENO is putting on Madam Butterfly in May so I think I'll go back for that. voodoochild - I reckon the season finale of Boardwalk should be pretty downbeat. HBO shows always seem to blow their dramatic wad in the penultimate episode. ;D

obsessive24 - Oh, definitely. And they've already had two complete-shocker episodes in 10 and 11. We know the trial won't be too shocking, and we know they'll probably off someone else (tumblr thinks it knows who, I'm suspicious). It'd be really hard to top the last 5 minutes of "Georgia Peaches" and all of "Under God's Power She Flourishes". But Jimmy and Richard got badass power walks in the teaser, and I'm hoping for more Rothstein, so I'm cautiously optimistic.

Cautiously optimistic is by far the best default state of being. ;D
I'm so looking forward to the weekend! I've been battling a cold all week, plus I had to walk around in clumpy old boots because my feet are sore, so I've been feeling decidedly blegh in the office all week. It'll be very nice to hole up at home and not do anything for a couple of days.

I'm going to see a play on Friday night and I just realised Michelle Fairley (Catelyn from GoT) is in it. Score! ;D

I'm going to see a play on Friday night and I just realised Michelle Fairley (Catelyn from GoT) is in it. Score! ;D Oooooooooooooh what play is it? I'll be in London for a day in early February and I want to see a play so bad--I really want to see "Juno and the Paycock" which has Sinéad Cusack and Ciaran Hinds, but the tickets are a little on the expensive side. Runner-up is the new play with Russel Tovey. Dilemma! ;D (I wanted to see War Horse but there's no performance on that day )

It's Sartre's "Huis Clos". I have not heard of either of those two! Boo for being expensive though. Are you staying the night, or just there for one day only? If you're staying around late enough maybe we could catch up for dinner, although I expect you'd have lots of plans crammed into the day already. ;D

Oh yes I've not done that yet but it doesn't take much for me to drop off these days. We had dinner at the Royal Opera House before the performance of Marriage of Figaro and dessert in the interval. Laid off the booze though so I wouldn't feel drowsy. But I was so hyped for that I didn't feel tired at all. Also Madame Butterfly in May - ooh nice!! Now I'm looking forward to the Harry Potter Leavesden studio tour in April The family is totally going to get our geek on.

I just can't wait for the Spring to come so I can go visit some nice places and my holiday in May. It can't come soon enough! I'm also taking the mother-in-law to the Opera in June for her 70th Birthday so that should be nice.

I was thinking of getting tickets to La Boheme! Haven't decided yet, anyway general sales don't open for another month so I have lots of time to think about it. I mostly want to see it because that's the opera that was playing when Giles found dead Jenny in his bed, right? ;D

Bellissimo Charmax Yes that's the one. ' O soave fanciulla' (Oh gentle Girl) Gawd a real heartbreaker. I love Puccini.

The Buffy connection alone warrants buying a ticket... on the balcony, anyway. ;D I'm a bit at people spending SugerMegaBucks on a good opera seat (, but your money is yours to spend to give you the most joy, and I certainly can't say anything what with my handbag/shoe addiction.

We've only taken a whole box at Covent Garden once & that was a double birthday celebration. Well worth it but I wouldn't do it on a regular basis. I just checked and saw that Don Giovanni is on right now and as if we needed another reason to book -here's the lead role img46.imageshack.us/img46/7715/7main.jpg [/img] *is shallow* Anyhow you can use your lovely shoes and bags more than once - better value really.
