Planning a holiday? Booked tickets to see something cool? What are you looking forward to? ;D I'm quite looking forward to seeing Immortals at the cinema next weekend. I hardly ever go to the movies these days, but will make an exception for a true visual spectacle. The reviews for Immortals haven't been all that good, but it's directed by Tarsem Singh (of The Cell, and The Fall, not to mention REM's Losing My Religion video), so that's enough for me. *hearts* Also just booked tickets to see the English National Ballet's Swan Lake in August next year. Soo far away, but gotta have something to look forward to.

Also just booked tickets to see the English National Ballet's Swan Lake in August next year. Ooooh. The envy, I haz it. Unfortunately I haven't any actual proper travelling coming up soon, but I'm determined to fly to the European premiere of The Hobbit next November--wherever that will be, but my bet is on London I will also fly to the British filk convention in February and I've signed up for a 40 minute solo slot--no, I don't know why I did that either ;-) Uhm...I went to my last concert for the year yesterday, but I've already got my eyes set on a few things next year. It's all rather far away, I realise. Ah, this year was hellish busy and reeeeaaaally awesome, so I'm not complaining if December is going to be a little quieter

Ahh, if you're keen on The Hobbit premiere, why not make a real trip of it and go to New Zealand? ;D Everyone should visit NZ at least once... *hearts*
How do solo spots work? What would you have to do? Sounds daunting...

Ahh, if you're keen on The Hobbit premiere, why not make a real trip of it and go to New Zealand? ;D Everyone should visit NZ at least once... *hearts* Believe me, if only I had the money ... ;D ;D ;D A good friend of mine did the "Lord of the Rings" trip once where she went to all the filming locations. She showed me her pictures--my God, it's such a beautiful country! A solo spot is basically a 40 minute solo concert. (They come in 20 and 40 minutes; usually 30 minutes at the German filk convention). Filkers are a very kind and supportive audience, but still, it's a bit daunting. I usually perform with a good friend of mine who plays the violin, and I have done a shorter set on my own before, but 40 minutes is a bit...terrifying. They break down to eight songs, which is quite a bit.

That is very daunting! But I'm sure it'll go well. Good luck!

In January I'm going to Railscamp ( railscamps.com/) with my boyfriend. Hopefully by then I'll have actually learned some Ruby. >.>

@obsessive24 - Ruby's a coding language to build sites with multiple functions on like the OTW.
@gnat - That sounds really cool. Good luck with it!

Sorry for not explaining, the website really is very bare. It's basically an excuse for a bunch of Ruby programmers to gather, hang out, drink a lot, and maybe do some coding. ;D
Roby on Rails is kind of a variation specifically for websites, and it's what AO3 is written in, for example.

That sounds like it should be fun! The hanging out and drinking bit, at least I get. ;D

I'm looking forward to Christmas. I've already got my tree up and fully decorated. Next are the house lights. I've always wanted to light the house so last year I hit the post-Christmas sales and picked up a bunch of net lights and strings of outdoor lights at half price. I even have LED stakes for the garden. I'll probably do myself an injury trying to get them all up, and it'll probably cause a power brown-out in the neighbourhood, but I'll give it a go!
I've also done all of my son's shopping. He's getting a two-wheeled bike from Santa (with training wheels) and some additional bits for his Zhu-Zhu Hamster set, and some Elephant & Piggie books (by Mo Willems, who wrote for Sesame Street and is a GENIUS). I've also got my Mum the entire series of Gavin & Stacey on DVD. It's one of the funniest programmes ever made, she loves it. Now I just have to sort out my sister, Dad and mother-in-law.
I'm determined to have a good Christmas for my son's sake, since it's the first since his Dad passed away.

And there was me thinking I was early making the Christmas cake. I'm doing the mincemeat today. I'm looking forward to Christmas too. It's a big event at our house and we don't hold back.

My family doesn't do Christmas since we're Chinese, so I've been going to my husband's small family Christmas 'do for the past 8 years or so. This will be the first year we're by ourselves, and wahay, what is this Christmas in winter?! Do not compute. I'll chuck on a roast (of NZ lamb, probably), but don't think we're doing much else. Just about to book tickets to a contemporary dance performance by Hiroaki Umeda. Description here, sounds absolutely fantastic... the way it's described, it has sensibilities that would translate well into vidding.

Christmas! I'M also looking forward it, though my daughters have been grown up already. I love this period of the year, we visit those family members, whom we meet rarely, or they visit us. I bake different kinds of Christmas cakes, decorate a Christmas tree, give and get presents. Love it!
Additionally I will have a long holiday: the company I work for will be closed between Christmas and New Year, yeah! I'll take some time for vidding during my holiday for sure.

Awww people have such lovely plans! It's kind of inspiring reading about them Frankly I'm looking forward to the end of my academic quarter... it's been ridiculously difficult administratively doing two independent projects and trying to split my time between them since they're both important and share almost no common ground. Add having to apply to new grad programs to that mix (why, oh why did you accept me if all of my "prospective advisors" hate fan studies? I wrote about fanfic in my master's thesis! It wasn't subtle!), and it's just been awful. I've planned a lot of video gaming, festividding, and fantasy novel reading (as well as family visiting) for the break, which should be absolutely perfect.
