obsessive24, I couldn't really get into Once Upon a Time either. I love it in theory - it seems like it should be exactly my type of show - but something about it, I don't know, never really came together and pulled me in. I think, for me, it's a case of the sum of the parts being greater than the whole?

I think, for me, it's a case of the sum of the parts being greater than the whole? Aye, that's the feeling I get as well. I'll give the next three episodes a try but I think maybe it's just not for me. I like my retold fairytales to be incredibly dark and absurd and I'm just not sure this version is doing it for me.

Obsessive, you may not like it then. There is a certain darkness to it, because they are all trapped and don't know who they are. But I feel like overall, there's a real feeling of hope to the series as the writers move us towards breaking the spell.

I started watching Rizzoli & Isles yesterday. Except for the obligatory "Women always discuss their relationship status" bits I really like it. Yay for kickass female characters

Rizzoli & Isles is one of those shows I really have to make an effort to turn my brain off for before I can enjoy it. I love Jane and Maura, and I ship them like crazy, but god, the show itself is just so dumb. But tons of femslash subtext is never a bad thing, no matter how hard Janet Tamaro tries to deny its existence. ;D
I thought Once Upon a Time would be my kind of show, but I couldn't make it past the first episode. That kid drove me up a wall, and nothing else really grabbed me besides the very pretty visuals.

but god, the show itself is just so dumb. Haha, it kind of is. I usually have the murderer and the motif figured out five minutes into the episodes. Also, Maura feels like a slightly shinied-up version of Temperance Brennan from Bones, but I don't care. To be honest I haven't actually noticed any femslash subtext but then again, I'm notoriously bad with subtext anyway I'm usually a non-shippy Gen-watcher.

Yeah, I never figure out the murderer, but on these, it's definitely obviously by, like, the time the opening credits show up. I also thought Maura was kind of like Brennan in the beginning of S1, but she grows out of it a little. Hee! Meanwhile, I was shipping them from that first sleepover in the pilot. I'm usually more of a canon hetshipper than anything else, but I am all over even a hint of femslashy subtext, and this provides in spades. It's enough to keep Dorothy Snarker at After Ellen busy each week doing a subtext recap each week it airs, anyway.

Actual opening credits have become so rare these days. Even though the combination of female coroner and Irish music initially gave me odd "Crossing Jordan" flashbacks. I also thought Maura was kind of like Brennan in the beginning of S1, but she grows out of it a little. That's good to hear. That blog and the recaps are amazing! Hehe! I'm a Gen-watcher most of the time and every so often I find a canon het couple that I adore (I love Amy and Rory from Doctor Who), but I'm too lazy for subtext ;D (And probably not looking for people to ship actively enough because I'm usually happy with anything Gen). Lots of people on my flist are m/m shippers though so I'm beginning to develop a radar for that through them and I definitely love my bromances, but I find slash...more of an amusing past-time/concept than anything I could get ever actually into. (The Gen-watcher in me refuses to ship, I guess. Bah.)

Irish music always wins me over, even when it has nothing whatsoever to do with the show (except the setting, I guess). I can't manage gen-watching. If canon doesn't give me a pairing I like, I latch on to one that has good chemistry. I've never found an m/m pairing I can get into, though; it's all het and occasional femslash.

I watched Sherlock on TV. I enjoyed it - and there were some very cool moments - but I wasn't blown away by it. The problem with the 1.5 hour length is that the storyline gets very convoluted, and as usual with Moffat, afterwards you think through the plot development and half the things that happen just tend to be smoke and mirrors. It's entertaining to be sure, but I can't be the only one who gets annoyed by the "cleverness" of it all when all that's happening is that he's talking circles around you trying to disguise what is actually a quite straightforward scenario.

I loved Sherlock last night. I kind of enjoyed the convolutions. The boys were wonderful especially in sheets. Funny thing watching a royal documentary just now I spotted a biographer sitting in a very 'Buckingham Palace' setting who was the spit of Mycroft. I had double took and cried out at the TV. Saw the trailer for Game of Thrones on Sky Atlantic too. April seems too long away.

I saw The Hunger Games this past Thursday night/Friday morning, and spent about half my energy being completely over-invested in the story/characters, and the other half thinking about how viddable the source is. That cinematography was just stunning.

I found the Hunger Games source too shaky and too close-up, personally. The motion made me feel a bit sick in the cinema. Also, I'm clearly too spoiled by Battle Royale and Spartacus, but I was expecting at least a little bit more violence and blood! Damn you, PG-12 rating. Anyone else watch the s5 premiere of Mad Men? \o/ And GoT is back this weekend!
