Alas, I'm on a Mac, so I have no clue.

legoline I'm not sure what program you are using to rip your DVDs but make sure you've grabbed the right VOB. I know when I rip I get a lot of VOB files, and when I clip in MPEG Streamclip, sometimes it doesn't join the files back together properly and I only get part of the episode I want. I tend to leave rips around for sources I work on regularly, so what I'll do is delete all of the small files (or ones I've checked and determined are previews or menus or whatever). What's left is usually a few 1+GB VOBs with a regular naming scheme. If you sort them by name and open all at once in MPEG Streamclip, it should get everything and it should join them appropriately as long as you click 'yes' when it asks about fixing time codes. ...at least, that's what happens to me. Yeah, it's a little bit buggy, sometimes I'll get the fixing timecodes dialogue, other times I just get an 'open all files', sometimes it doesn't ask at all! Most of the time it works fine though, and on the odd occasion when it doesn't, I just try with a different file, and it'll work second time around. So, you know, on the scale of bugginess, it's something I can live with franzeska & winterjasmine I can't for the life of me get Streamclip to work on my computer. I once spent an entire morning trying to get it installed--it wouldn't work with regular Quicktime, I had to get a specific version of that one. When I did install that one and got rid of the regular Quicktime it still got me an error message, and I went round and round in circles for hours. Maybe it's a Windows 7 thing I have to use Virtual Dub Mod which is slightly more time consuming to work with. I recently installed the new Streamclip beta version when I was having trouble with it not playing the sound on ripped files, that one seems to work pretty well, and is much less buggy than the earlier version. I do recall having to install the Quicktime MPEG2 Playback component from Apple. www.apple.com/quicktime/extending/components.html It was about $20 when I got it a couple of years ago. Jaz

OK. Well my brother had a look at the program and assumes that they may have changed some code in the background system, or something, and that I might need to "activate" the program anew. Which alas, I cannot do So. Either I get a different version or I'm screwed because I still need to do the final tweaking of my assignement. Well, s***.

Can't you just uninstall and reinstall it?

Not certain, actually. I'll try that next, I guess. (I'm always hesitant about uninstalling stuff because a computer is still a magical box to me that just...does things). Until then, all vids are on pause. *pouts*

It hasn't happened in a while, but since I first installed Vegas, it randomly stopped working a couple of times on my machine. I would try and start the program and it just wouldn't start. It always worked again once I uninstalled/reinstalled it. Hope it works for you.

Thanks. I'll certainly try it I may get my brother to buy the educational version of SV 11.0 otherwise (I just figured out Sony Vegas Movie Studio and Sony Movie Studio are the same...I figured they were two different things. D'oh!)

OKay. Uninstalled it, reinstalled it and...it's going slightly better now though I fear something in the background system must be blown to pieces. It occasionally does this thing now whee when you render a file it claims it's done after two seconds or so but the file is actually corrupted and empty. When I close SV and start it again and try to render it usually works though...so, fingers crossed.
It also refuses to read the DVD rips I need for the festivids treat, but I think that may actually be due to the VOBs because apparently they contain both the regular film and the version that has the commentary and I guess it's a bit too much to handle for SV.
On the brighter side I did manage to finish the first draft for a Christmas for someone and figured out converted MPEG2s work fine. And the first draft isn't too bad, so even if SV dies on me now I can still use the draft. Next up: finishing my festivids assignement. Like, for realz. *crosses fingers*

My Escapade vid is improving in leaps and bounds after a very helpful beta session with dragonchic. The narrative is pretty ambitious and the first draft was kinda all over the place, but she really helped me condense the problem down into targetable areas. Rendering a second draft now, hopefully DC will agree it works better! ;D

Sitting on the second draft cut of "Jacob Marley's Chain," started acquiring and cutting for my Boardwalk Empire vid (slightly ahead of schedule, but oh well).

Yay!!! And oh man I didn't know what vid farr meant for the longest time, I thought it was a bad thing (like "FARRR(ck) I can't vid worth a damn right now" What, farck could totally be a sci-fi curse word.)
