Hello *gives a shy wave* I'm Nance, AtharRiordan89 on LJ/Tumblr/Twitter/Youtube, and I've been vidding (under this alias) for about one month - *although under previous aliases I have dabbled in vidding since about 2007 - I could never decide on a vidding name until this one *. I make my videos on WMM, and then use Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 to add tags, and make them into HD goodness (I have been using Adobe for about a year or so for such after effects work). My current Vidding Fandom is the British Sci-Fi show, Primeval When I'm not vidding I like to write Fanfiction (as well as read it) and you can find me under ' Athar Riordan' - although at the moment, the incentive to write has left me upon the completion of a Sherlock Holmes dissertation for the end of my English MA Course, but I hope it comes back soon as I have a few ideas on paper but am unable to begin them due to the Muse being on strike Anything Else? I also like to read, have been known to do some amateur photography and I also like doing a bit of Star Gazing (when ever possible - which is kind of hard when living in London). Favourite Shows: Chaos (2011), Doctor Who (2005), Fringe (2008), Merlin (2008), Primeval (2007), Sherlock (2010), Supernatural (2005), Terra Nova (2011), The Secret Circle (2011), The Vampire Diaries (2009), Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003), Harry Potter Series (2001-2011)

Hello all! I'm badfishmuser AKA elvenkayt, constant and and rabid beta of Nos, who introduced me to the vidding world and general geekery about 8 years ago-ish. Since then, I've been exposed to BtVs, Firefly and Doctor Who, often starting out reluctantly (okay, kicking and screaming), but she wins me over eventually (okay, wears me down). So far, I've just been a beta and constructive critiquer, when asked. I love looking at things from the perspective of a virgin viewer, since I love the idea of bringing new fans into the fandom (we must share our message of love and obsession with the world I tell you!), but I understand that not all artists are looking to do that, so tell me to shut up and I will do so. I was in the Navy and I've got a thick skin. I'm in school to learn how to do all this myself, since I'm hopeless at the teaching myself angle and I can't get the whole acquiring of software down. I'd like to take the opportunity to thank Nos for her inspiration, and to those who inspired her. She keeps repeating your rules to me all the time when I suggest stuff to her. I have much to learn wise ones. I certainly hope to talk more over Christmas break. Take care yall! Kayti

Welcome Nance and badfishmuser! Nance - out of interest, what are tags that you add in Premiere Elements? I've never heard of that term with reference to vids before. badfishmuser - we haz rules? That nos repeats? Sounds weirdly ominous to me. ;D

Many rules. For decent vidding anyways, as she was taught in a vidders boot camp. She might just be using them as kind ways of getting out of using something I though might be cool, not sure about that, lol. No talky face. (Shoulda made that caps, cause she says it alot) Don't use more than 3-5 seconds of a clip UNLESS you break it up with something else. Be literal as often as possible (with regards to song lyrics) If you can't, meta the shit out of it No talky face. Seriously. There are more, but these are the ones she mentioned to me when I was working on the first Doctor Who vid I lost to the ether shortly after I figured out how to work everything. I had to chalk it up as a learning experience. After staring despondently at the screen for about five minutes asking, "Why did I hit that button? Why?" Long post is long. Thank you for your patience. Kayti

Weeelll, I'd personally agree with some of these (esp talky face) and not others (esp literalness). I like to think of anything that we say or imply more as guidelines rather than rules, mayhaps. Undoubtedly other people will have different views also.

I definitely wasn't disagreeing with the talky face for sure. That one's a very good guideline.
Oh and she did mention that 'guideline' word. I sometimes have trouble still interpreting Navy and civilian language still. In the Navy if I was given a 'guideline,' it meant I was gonna do it or my booty would fry. I forget that things don't always work that way anymore, lol.

gnattery I actually like finding the little literalisms in source and song. The ones that end up being symbols or metaphors within themselves in the source and the song. (I love reading meta, so I can see meta in just about anything though). In that way you get both symbol and literal. It makes me squee a little.

Yeah, I think it's a fair bet that vidding isn't gonna kick your ass as hard as the Navy. ;D I'm from a law/professional services background, so like to keep things as vague as possible at all times to ensure maximum ass-covering. For me "guidelines" codes a bit more pliable than "rules".

Welcome, badfishmuser!
Talky-face is one of my all-time pet peeves. ;D In my opinion (which counts for very little, by the way, LOL) a vid should look like the source belongs to it. It shouldn't look like it was supposed to be a TV show but now it's not. Talky-face reminds me of the fact that the source was intended for an entirely different purpose than my vid, hence it is bad.
