Hey Killa - several of the Festivids are in 4:3 because they use older source - just sayin' :-).

Hey Killa - several of the Festivids are in 4:3 because they use older source - just sayin' :-). I get that! I guess I don't see that it makes sense, though. If I have 22 vid submissions, and 3 of them are in 4 by 3, then why is it everyone else who has to add black bars? It's just as easy to add black bars on the sides for the 3 vids that are 4 by 3. And it was almost the same ratio last year. I'm beginning to wonder why 4 by 3 is still our con standard, when it's such a minority.

The only advantage I can see is that requiring 4:3 makes both 16:9 and the various cinematic widescreen aspect ratios look similar. (The bars are in the same place for any letterboxed vid instead of switching from top and bottom to sides depending on the vid.) But if most vids are current tv show footage that's all 16:9, hey, might as well go with the flow. Wait, wait, I mean, both of my vids for this year are 4:3 HDU consider changing?! (I should have them in by the deadline, but just FYI, expect two from me.)

Is the timetable already confirmed and we know what day/time the vidshow will be? Just looking to update the calendar for those who have premiering vids to post.

So, all the Escapade vids are in, yay! *hugs to the stragglers who stuck in there* And I'm very happy to say that we had a tremendous response this year, with lots of wonderful submissions, a great mix of popular fandoms, and a much higher ratio of premieres than last year. It appears my gentle nagging and begging tactics may have worked.
Of course, now we have the opposite problem from last year: the submitted vids total 148 minutes! That is fantastic, y'all. But there is no way they can all be shown in one sitting. Last year's show was 88 minutes, and I thought that was a substantial show—not too long, but I wouldn't want to go too much longer. So, we are planning a "Nearly New" type show. I'll be contacting all the vidders whose vids will be affected to make sure that's okay with them, since this is something new-ish for Escapade. I welcome thoughts about this, if you have them to share.

Oooh, that is excellent news! Are you going to be able to have a Premiere show with *just* premieres?

Oooh, that is excellent news! Are you going to be able to have a Premiere show with *just* premieres? We have 13 premieres (I think we had two last year), so about half the show will be premiering vids. And some gorgeous, gorgeous premiering vids they are, too. The other thing that's great is how many vidders submitted. It's my hope that we could show everyone's first choice vid and all the premieres on Saturday night, but even that would be 103 minutes, which is pretty long.
