That's brilliant, Killa! What a wonderful thing to set up.
Quick question: do all submitting vidders get a copy of the DVD, or do you need to sign up as a member?

All submitting vidders do get a copy of the DVD, yes.

Another note to myself to placehold, but if anyone has thoughts about this, please chime in. I'm liking the current thread about con vs. living room vids, and specifically about Audience, that's going on. Talking about audience isn't something I've seen a whole panel devoted to, but I like it, and think it would be very appropriate to Escapade in particular.

Talking about audience isn't something I've seen a whole panel devoted to, but I like it, and think it would be very appropriate to Escapade in particular. I just finished doing a circuit through the Vividcon panels on Fanlore and there was one panel about "Knowing Your Audience". It came, if I recall, as a results of many years of vidders wondering why certain of their vids were not being understood or well received in X,Y,Z setting. What the panelists tried to do is help vidders target their audience so they could sort out feedback and reception (ex. someone who hates country music is more likely going to not like your country western vid. But often they (the audience) do not know why they don;t like the vid and/or don;t articulate it well, so you, as the vidder, may only be seeing a sea of "yuck! (Which, IMHO, you need to be ready for if you actually do use country music songs. But that's part of what the panel is about about, so I digress). The panel was called "Connecting with the Audience" and it was held at Vividcon 2004: fanlore.org/wiki/Vividcon/Vividcon_2004. Wickedwords/Rache was one of the panelists . Panel notes are here: laurashapiro.livejournal.com/73612.htmlI think it would be a great panel for Escapade, with a slight shift to also focus on the audience's POV (this panel was targeted towards vidders).

My premiere is done! \o/ Am so pleased. Imma let it sit for a few days before I do the final render for upload, but it's well ahead of deadline so I'm just gonna bask in my organisedness for a bit. ;D

Well, I'm gonna call it, and say that the time for requesting vid show submissions in 4 by 3 format may have passed. At least, in Escapade's case! So far, I've had exactly one vidder submit a vid from 4 by 3 source, and everyone else has had to add black bars. That seems disproportionate. Next year, 16 by 9. (An aside about Escapade submissions: the deadline is sneaking up on us! It's midnight EST on January 16th. But if you need more time, send me a message, and we can talk.)

Hmm, I forsee a problem. All my m2v conversion programs preset to 4:3. Not actually sure how to make it 16:9...

Hmm, I forsee a problem. All my m2v conversion programs preset to 4:3. Not actually sure how to make it 16:9... Wow, really? How... 1996. Okay, so noted. It just seems like everyone always has so much trouble with the black bars, and aspect ratio—I fix 3 out of 5 vids every year, if not more. If everyone's source is 16:9 to begin with, it seems weird to require everyone to squish to meet a no-longer-standard standard.

When you say January 16th at midnight, do you mean Sunday night or Monday night? Hoping it's not a relevant question for me (I'm halfway there) but just in case.
