SPOILERS I am honestly super bummed Finnick died, and it wasn't some epic death either. I get why thematically Prim needed to die, but Finnick feasibly coulda lived, she didn't have to be THAT mean. I prefer to just gloss over that little bit in my head and pretend he didn't. /SPOILERS

I totally didn't believe Finnick died at first. I kept expecting him to come back in some epic fashion. But then he didn't, and he left behind Annie as well! I think the fact that it wasn't such an epic death made it so much sadder

I am SO dying for this movie. The first book is one of my favorites ever and I really can't wait to actually SEE it. No idea if I'm going to vid it but I would love to vid the first movie if I find the right song. Not super happy with the casting but it's close enough (except Cinna who I imagined as a young Tim Gunn but I can deal) and I like that it looks like it's sticking close to the books.
Yeah, Finnick BETTER be hot.

LOL! Cinna = young Tim Gunn? That's hilarious and yet weirdly appropriate. ;D ;D
I agree it looks like it's sticking well to the books, and I can deal with the rest of the casting as long as I like Katniss, who I think they've got quite spot on. I'm yet to see Winter's Bone but everyone I know raves about it, and I like how she's not like supermodel-beautiful.
I think I'm most likely to vid Finnick if I were to vid this at all. Finnick and his fishnet costume with strategically placed knots. *snigger*

Cinna just has that wisdom and calmness and of course, fashion sense that I see in Tim so that's how I always pictured him. He's also my favorite or at least tied with Katniss so I really hope they capture him right.
I loved Jennifer Lawrence in Winter's Bone. I thought she'd work on the EW cover but IDK it just felt off when I saw her in the trailer. My best guess is age, I understand why they went older but I think it's important that these kids are so young so it does throw me off a bit.
I totally support that vid idea! I really hoped she'd make Finnick gay in the books but I suppose I shall have to hope I get some slashy stuff to work with in the movies at least.

I totally thought he coded gay too, until we found out about Annie. Oh well, they are pretty sweet together. Who do you want to slash him with?

Finnick and his fishnet costume with strategically placed knots. *snigger* I'm really hoping that's in there. haha. I just read these books last week. The trailer was what made me read them. I love them entirely. I think they're my favorite of anything, whether it be book, show, or movie. The series broke my heart over and over again. I think the trailer looks amazing. The girl playing Katniss passes as young enough for me. I always thought Katniss seems older, anyway. I think she's doing very well. I still have yet to see Winter's Bone. I'm not sure I want to, though, because I realized she was in.. xmen, lol, and I want to purge that from my brain so that it's all more believable when I see this movie. It's soo far away. :/ As far as Peeta goes (I love his character--he's so hilarious, especially when he's mimicking her when she lies to him). I really hope these movies focus on characterization, about how awesome Katniss is, though she doesn't think so, and how kind and funny Peeta is, and how so angry Gale is. I really want them to show the brutality of the Hunger Games, and not just allude to it. And I gotta say, when I got that copy of EW in the mail and saw both Peeta and Gale on the cover, I was like, man, this movie's gonna be terrible because they can't find even one hot guy for it. That was before I'd read the books and was pretty much turned off by it (they kept comparing it to Twilight). But after seeing the trailer, I think Peeta's going to be okay for me. Sometimes seeing pictures of people aren't as good as watching them, and I'm thinking that's true for him.

I am worried about how they'll handle the violence and the rating they will give the film. It's one thing to imagine the hand-to-hand gruesome deaths of children but another to show it onscreen. I realize this comment makes me sound 1000 years old, but it's been on my mind ever since I read the books and saw the trailer.
Also they better not screw up the costumes!!

spookysen - hurray for converting! Yeah, I think any comparison to Twilight (and Meyer's unfortunate endorsement of the books) probably hurt the readership more than it helped them. Well, that's probably not true, I'm sure sales went up because of that, but still. I'm sure there is a whole contingent of people who never bothered picking up the books because of the tenuous Twilight connection, and that's a shame. It took me a while to realise it's the same girl in Winter's Bone, The Hunger Games and XMFC. The blonde hair (or blue skin, occasionally) created enough of a disconnect for me. ;D I hope at least one of the guys is hot onscreen. I still can't get over how weird Peeta looks, but Gale seems like he has potential. But my heart is firmly set aside for Finnick in any case. ;D Any news on casting yet? Counteragent - I have to say I side with Sen on this one. I'd rather that it were shown brutally than in any way shying away from the enormity of what's happening. I thought the way Battle Royale did it would be best, although admittedly those kids were all the same age and on the older side. It would be hard to see the younger kids... although now that I think about it, which Tributes are really young in the first movie games other than Rue? Nobody else is coming to mind for me. All the ones I remember (Thresh, the Careers) seem like they'd be older. Maybe there were some younger ones in the Cornucopia bloodbath?

But my heart is firmly set aside for Finnick in any case. ;D Any news on casting yet? ??? Maybe it's because I prefer blond guys, but Peeta is really not bothering me at all now, lol. I like his weirdness, that it isn't.. cookie cutter hollywood hotkid who can't act. It gives him more character, I guess, lol. And I mean, no, I still don't like the pics shot for EW, but in the trailer, and this pic api.ning.com/files/T3RbTPZ2vhqgaJG-qDGHjM-SwcJ2ikfc9xTOZPVvxO-l8G37t8jrxEsjH0pG73-9SwkPGKPrmvD4tMyd2*i4UjK1ShE9Hobl/hunger_games_hi_res_official_movie_photo_kravitz_hutcherson_harrelson.jpg, I think he looks okay. :D And I have heard nothing. Although I haven't really been looking around for news on that stuff. Who is your dream Finnick?

I have a thing against dimpled chins and overly prominent brows, both of which this Peeta has in abundance, so I'm not too keen, but that's just me. ;D
Dream Finnick... such a good question! Hmm, I have no idea. He's supposed to be very classicly good-looking, right? I tend to be drawn to guys who are good looking but in a slightly off-kilter way, so none of the ones that pop to mind are good choices for Finnick.
Also, I don't tend to gravitate toward a golden/bronze palette - which I very much associate with Finnick, so that's also giving me pause as to what guys would look good in those colours.

lol he's got nothing visually going for you then. What do you think of his character in the books? I love his character. And he breaks my heart, the bastard. I'm just hoping the movies don't ruin him. And the only one that I can think of for my dream Finnick, I guess, would be Bradley James, if he can.. act well enough (I mean, I don't think he's a baad actor, but Merlin is one thing, and this is another, and I just don't have the confidence for that, y'know?). I don't really know of any other guy actors who would look the part. I haven't been up to speed with everything that's been coming out lately. I think the reason I "gravitate" to that (lol, I feel like I'm saying I'm being magnetically drawn to people and bump into them like bumper cars or something) is because it's exactly what I'm not. I have black hair and pale skin, and I'm not attracted to someone who looks like they could be my brother. Although, I do like Henry Cavill, but to not creep myself out, I say he's way too pretty to look like my brother, haha. I also hope that he's introduced in the movie exactly like he was in the books. Johanna, too. Sekrits and sugar cubes. I was laughing my ass off reading that.

You mean Peeta? I liked him in the books, but didn't think anything in particular beyond that, probably because everything is Katniss POV, so the ambivalence rubbed off on me a bit. I actually did think about Bradley James for a moment, but he codes a tad too blonde for me. Also, not chiselled enough in the upper body, IMO. I'm thinking of Finnick's physique as basically a copper/gold tanned sun-god. ;D I thought about Henry Cavill too! Minds, they go to the same places. You might be right. I have naturally Asian colouring (because I'm Chinese, duh), although lately I've been leaning toward gold-toned autumn palettes myself. Nothing I gravitate to in men. I tend to like the dark-haired pale ones! ;D He MUST be introduced exactly the same way with the sugar and the net costume. YES.

Okay, I know this thread is old and I'm late to the party, but I've just finished the books. Yoiks, they were darker than I expected for a YA audience, but I did love them, an awful lot. Not sure I'll see the movies - I'm a bit squeamish and if half of what I read gets on screen, I'll be too distressed to watch, LOL. Also I don't deal well with shaky-cam, which I hear there's a lot of.
***** SPOILERS*****
One thing I was left wondering, which was never mentioned in the books... Do you think Coin ordered the attack on 8 when Katniss was there? To make the Capitol look more barbaric, and to ensure they got the footage they wanted? After what happened in the square outside Snow's mansion, it's the first thing I thought of.
Casting for Finnick... Ryan Reynolds? Too old?

Welcome to the party! The movie is not bloody at all; I was disappointed even though I knew it was like PG-12 or something. Been watching too much Spartacus for my own good. But the shakycam did make me a bit nauseous as well. Personally I thought the film could have done with less close-up and shakycam, but to each his own. Haven't thought about it. I don't think it would change things one way or another. The fact that we know she ordered the parachute attack was plenty indictment enough, so for me it doesn't really matter whether she or Snow instigated the District 8 attack because both of them are clearly willing and able. Ryan Reynolds codes too old for me. He was only 14 when he won, and that was... 10 years ago?
