I gave away my house today I'm not kidding! I gifted it to a family trust for my son. Did you just transfer the deeds, or did you actually move out? My parents did a similar thing a good few years back so that me and my brother won't have to pay inheritance tax when they die, but the lawer set it up so that my parents have full control over the property until they both pass away.

I'm not fully cognisant of the details, but I imagine it's just a paper transfer to a family trust for which littleheaven is a trustee and her son is a beneficiary. It should just give legal protection to her son if future circumstances change.

Did you just transfer the deeds, or did you actually move out? I just transferred the title so that the trust owns the house, not me. I am the main trustee and my son is the final beneficiary. That way, if I remarry one day, the person I marry can't take away what belongs to my son. I want to make sure he is protected and looked after. Kind of feels weird not to own your own house, though!

I'm sure no rich person owns their stuff outright!

I'm sure no rich person owns their stuff outright! LOL, probably not! I wouldn't put myself in that league, but mortgage-free at 41 is doing okay. Not that I'd recommend how I got here. All I can say is thank heavens for life insurance policies. I'd be living with my parents if it weren't for that - no way could I have paid the mortgage on my own.

More than okay! And having the life insurance policy shows a lot of foresight. I can sympathise that it's not something that you ever imagine happening, but it having happened, having the policy there must be a great relief. *hugs*

w000t!!! That is awesome! How did your exams go? And what's the plan for the 3 months of no obligation? ;D
I had one of those once. Made Change (in the house of flies). Good times.

I have Plans.
- Hopefully lots of vidding, obviously. - I'd also like to get through as much ASOIAF as possible -- I've just started the second book. - I've mentioned before that I'm planning to learn Ruby and go to Railscamp in Adelaide. Roadtrip! (For those who don't know Adelaide is a total hole and the idea of taking a roadtrip there is hilarious.) - I'd like to get my DnD group back together and start playing again -- I'm going to lure them back with non-DnD games so it's easier to get back into the habit of meeting up and to give the DM a rest. I'd like to try inflicting Paranoia on them, my boss was talking about it and it sounds awesome. - I'd also like to start exercising properly once I get my earplugs so I can SLEEP and be rested enough to do it.
Also boring stuff like taking care of my car.

Ohhh, I am envious. I had my last such summer after senior year of college (well almost, I did spend a good portion of it studying for the GMAT, alas). Enjoy it.

I'm a terribly slow reader, even with nothing else I have to do. The internet ruined my attention span, sadly.
I'll probably take a little holiday after I graduate, but I'll want to start looking for work fairly quickly. My family won't admit it yet but I'm going to need to have a lot of money saved up for them in the future. Self-appointed breadwinner. *sigh*

I should really make two novel drafts today that I want to send in to a literary agent but I apparently can't stop watching Covert Affairs. (I did mention Auggie?)

And having the life insurance policy shows a lot of foresight. Everyone should have one, if only to cover funeral costs, if something happens to them. We were lucky - as a type 1 diabetic, Gareth was uninsurable but because he worked for two insurance companies he was given life cover with no underwriting. Congratulations, gnat! Enjoy your break. I am so jealous! I got a new micro-system today. It's a Pioneer CD/DVD player, an FM tuner and an iPod dock. It can also stream via bluetooth from up to 4 devices in the house. It replaces my new Edifier one which jammed with my favourite CD in it (the repair place had to bust it open and post the disc back to me) and the replacement Edifier for the first one, which exploded with a bang and a burning smell 10 minutes after I first turned it on. I'm hoping third time is the charm.
