A total newbie and not sure where to go and who to meet? Got a question that you think might be really, really stupid? Ask anything you want here, and we promise we will be nice. ;D

Okay, it's been a long while since I have been on a forum and I can't find any settings to change but is there a way to be notified through email or message when someone has replied to or quoted on of your posts, or has posted in one of your bookmarked threads?
I know the forums show the new icon when there is a new post but that means I have to manually check the site to see if there are new posts. And I have totally become spoiled with notifications being sent to me on other sites so I just wanted to check what the options were here.
Thanks!

Let's see. I think if you reply using the Reply button (rather than the quick reply box), there should be a ticky box at the bottom saying bookmark the thread? What happens if you tick that box? I'm gonna try that now and see if anything happens when someone replies to this thread.

Okay, I have also ticked the box and I shall see if I will also get a reply.
However, I have also bookmarked other threads but all that seems to do is them under 'Bookmarks' in my profile.

Wait, I have worked this out after a brief google. There is a setting but it is somewhat hidden (if you just had a lazy look like I did).
Go to Profile > Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks and then you can change the default notification method or the method for individual bookmarks.
Let's see if it works now...

Oh, I see it now! After I bookmarked the thread, I was like, now what? But I can see it in my profile now. Hope that is sufficient for your needs.

It should be fine I tried setting it to send a PM but that didn't work so I have it set to email which if it works should be equally fine

Maybe it's not instantaneous, but a daily digest or something. Let me know how you get on and I can troubleshoot over in proboards support if it doesn't work.
EDITED to ADD: after I changed my bookmark settings, it deleted all my bookmarks. So it looks like I need to re-bookmark this thread after I change my settings... maybe that's the reason you're not getting notifications?

I still haven't managed to get the PM's to work. But I am now getting email notifications, so that at least is working. But I did not experience the error you did. I have changed the bookmark settings a couple of times now but they have all still remained. So not sure what is happening with you

After I made the post I realised I was just being dumb. I ticked the ticky box thinking that enabled me to change the settings, but the ticky box was actually to delete the thread from my bookmarks, so don't mind me and my stupidity.
But my PM notification is working fine - I just got one that notified me of your post so I came over here. How strange...

Haha, I've done stupid things like that except I always realise what I have done wrong as soon as I call someone over to have a look.
And PM's are working for me as well now. I think they were just delayed appeared. So all is well!

I'm glad that all got sorted, even though I was of no help whatsoever. Welcome to vid pub! Where we are keen to help, even though we have no idea how!

Hee hee--I had the same question! I'm going to try the bookmark adjustment thing here. I was, ah, actually wondering how people get the nifty picture icons by their names It looks like you have to have them saved as a webpage?

You can use photobucket Roki, or any of the other free picture hosting services.
