Hi there, just a random question - is there a prevailing preference among members with regards to sigs? I kinda liked them on previous boards, (if they were not too big and overpowering) because they provide a bit of colour and also help to identify people quickly. Because honestly, now that Nicki doesn't look like Brian anymore, I just don't recognize her....  |

This is actually my vidding forum avatar that I had back in Reverie as well, if memory serves.  I think proboards will let you go up to 100x100 pixels, and clearly, based on mine, you can do animated gifs. There might be a size restriction but I'm not sure what it is. |

I was actually talking about signiatures at the bottom of the post, rather than avatars, but I've just tried, and it looks like probords doesn't support sigiture images, it only shows text. Or am I'm missing something?

amnistias, try placing the picture url in [img] [/img] tags. I don't know if the signature thing will accept them, but it's worth a try.

Thanks a lot, gnat, that worked a treat!
I'll take it down again, for the time being, until peops had time to opine on it, I don't want to start a trend if the majority prefers it 'clean and tidy'. I know some people find it takes up too much space and clutters the board, I find personally find a splash of colour quite nice. But I'm happy to do it either way.
But thanks again for the tech advise, at least I learnt something....

Personally I'm really keen to keep this board as rules-free as possible, so feel free to do whatever you like within what's physically allowed by the board. Some people will like it and some won't, but as long as people don't end up with ginormous flashing picture sig lines that take up half the screen and negatively affect everybody else's posting experience, I think they should be allowed to do what they like.

I don't like sigs -- particularly when they are long, because it's hard for me to stop my eyes from reading them Every Single Time I see them. BUT! I just discovered that it is possible to disable sigs so that one doesn't see them! Which is awesome! People can have sigs if they like them, but I can turn them off!
If you click on View Profile -> Modify profile, then scroll down, there are a whole bunch of options there. Show/hide: age, gender, email, sigs, profile pics, etc.
I'm finding the constant presence of the color-coded male/female symbols weirdly annoying. (It's one thing on a profile but I don't need it next to every single post!) So I turned mine off. That's not a global setting though: it turns mine off, not everybody else's.

Ooh, hey, there's a calendar feature on here. Can we add things like the nominations/signup/due dates for fests and submission dates for cons? (Both in the sense of "may we?" and in the sense of "how the !$#@ do I do that?")

I just changed the forum setting so that any registered member should be able to add stuff to the calendar. Why don't you give it a go and see if it comes through? |
