Has anyone found any good sites that offer good quality stock footage? It would be especially wonderful if they're free, but I guess that's not overly likely.

www.istockphoto.com offers a free video once a month but that is the only free, high quality video source that I know of.

www.ignitemotion.com/There are not too many, but great footage! I used their fire backgrounds for a video previously, all had a good quality.

I use this one a lot: www.sxc.hu/ My friend Elli, who's a graphic designer, recommended it to me

Videoblocks.com offers a 7-day free trial with unlimited downloads. I took advantage of that offer a while back and it was legit -- I was able to download what I wanted and cancel before the trial period expired.
FootageFirm.com has a separate site from Video Blocks, but the two are definitely part of the same company -- I think the only difference is that Footage Firm offers their collections on old school DVDs, rather than via download. I'm guessing both sites have a similar catalogue, though I've never specifically compared. Footage Firm a number of low-cost DVD footage collections (billed as "free," but there's a S&H charge of $8.41 per DVD). I have a couple of those collections, though I could not tell you where the darn DVDs are right now!
I got some nice stock from Artbeats and a few other companies as extras on project file DVDs that accompanied After Effects tutorial books by Chris and Trish Meyer. You can also pick up a free clip here and there by registering with a stock footage site and/or signing up for their newsletters. Artbeats used to offer a free clip download with every email newsletter, but sadly that is no more.
