If you have a specific question about WMM, ask it here.
To better enable our tech-savvy members to help, please give as much information as possible, including (where appropriate):
PC or Mac? What operating system are you using? What version of WMM are you using? What file formats are you importing as source? What file format are you trying to export?

Hey WMM-knowing peoples!
My girlfriend is trying to get into vidding (yea!) and we've hit a technical stumbling block. She downloaded Windows Live Movie Maker on her Windows 7 PC, and we can't get the program to import the song. We've tried to import it as a .mp3 and as a .wav and neither work--trying with the .mp3 brings up an error message saying the file format is not compatible, and trying with the .wav brings up an error message saying the file doesn't exist (although it plays fine). Any thoughts?

Hm. According to their website both file formats should work fine. Does the song file play okay in other programs?

Yeah--that's what's so weird. She said that the songs open up fine in realplayer, and I sent her the .wav version myself, which played fine in vlc. It's very

Yeah but VLC will play anything. You could just hand it a text file full of random numbers and it'll reconstruct it and play it. I think it's fair to assume though that the file itself is fine. Is WMM rejecting all .mp3s and .wavs or just this song? Is it rejecting anything else as well, other song or video file types? Might be a problem with the installation of WMM. Maybe try reinstalling it?

Ha ha ha on vlc--true enough. It went through a period of wiping out on me, but I think my computer was just trying to subtly signal its upcoming demise.
We figured it out! We were trying to pull in the song first. Apparently, you have to pull in the *video* first and then pull the song in. Yea!

Oh WMM, your logic just isn't. Glad you got it sorted though

HELP.
I saved my latest draft to my computer, and there are blank spots showing up where clips used to be. I've been using the clips for weeks, and there hasn't been anything wrong with them until now.
I use a PC, running on Windows 7, Windows Live Movie Maker, .avi as source, exporting as .wmv.

Clarification please: there are blank spots in your exported vid but you can still see those clips in the program, or there are blank spots on the program timeline, as in the clips have just disappeared from your project altogether?

Black spots in the exported vid. I can see the clips on the timeline, and they look fine when I play them in WMM's preview player, but when I've saved the vid and exported it to play in WMM/VLC, there are clips that show up as blank.

I was hoping someone else will jump in because I know next to nothing about WMM. Any progress on this front? Specifically, have you tried re-exporting and did the same blank spots show up in the same places?

I'd love to help but I haven't used the new Live Movie Maker in anger just the old XP version. I couldn't even find the timeline when I opened it on my daughters laptop. This forum was always helpful with WMM issues you could have a look there. www.windowsmoviemakers.net/Forums/

I couldn't even find the timeline when I opened it on my daughters laptop. My reaction exactly! I was like WHERE IS THE TIMELINE.

I haven't a clue what they've done to WMM. I know it was pretty basic but Ellie (who started using it when she was about 9) found it great to play around with. We had to install the old version on the laptop for now.
Anyhow Sony Vegas is on the Christmas list so I think we'll both learn that together.
