Oh Lovely. I'm not too fond of the new Jane Eyre adaptation because I don't like Fassbender as Rochester much, but by God is that film beautifully filmed and you really captured that in your video I liked your use of overlays, it sort of created an atmosphere of dreams and memories for me and fitted the song really well. I did think some of the cuts were too quick and hectic, I'm afraid, and I'd also like to add what's been said about my vid, your fadeouts are really quick sometimes and seem to disrupt the flow a little. (But that's just me and what do I know )

hee, thanks. & yeah, i know a lot of people didn't like this version of rochester (including the people i went to see this movie with). i guess he's pretty different to the book-version ... but somehow i still loved him. probably just because i adore fassbender though.
and i doubt very much that i know more about vidding than you do. anyway, vids are often such a personal thing that i think everyone can give feedback on vids. i agree that some of the fades to black are very quick - because i actually didn't even fade in some places but just cut on the beat. idk, i just wanted to try it out & thought it kinda fit ;) maybe you're right though & it's a bit too hectic.

I haven't seen this movie, although watching it certainly brought back memories of reading the book when I was a wee kid. Good times. ;D
I really enjoyed the editing in this, and the way you used light and shade. I thought the cutting choices were interesting and a bit experimental - especially where you have hard cuts on overlays - but unlike legoline I personally quite liked how that came together, especially in contrast to the longer clips that you hold onto for effect. So all of that worked for me, even though I agree it seems a little unusual.
The only moment that I wasn't sure about was the 2-frame gap of black at 0:32. I'm not sure if there's a specific thematic reason for it, but it looks like it could be an oversight, so that gave me a bit of pause.
I particularly loved the hard cut at 0:27 - very evocative!

Hmm. I found the very quick little pauses a bit distracting. I think you were going for a stylistic choice there, and it would have looked *amazing* if you'd held them for just a tiny bit longer. As it is they feel more like playback glitches than the stuck feeling you're going for. Which I can totally see too, but because I keep thinking they're playback errors instead I can't just feel it instead of thinking about it. That might just be me though, and I can see how it goes with the music, pausing for one note being hit.
I haven't seen the movie or read the book, but I found this really beautiful.

gnat - I'm not sure what pauses you're specifically talking about, but I think some of them are tech glitches if you're watching the Vimeo stream - tearfuleye mentioned in the vid post the Vimeo stream is a bit stuttery for some reason, so I put those tiny pauses down to faulty stream, rather than the vid itself. I haven't downloaded the download version to compare.

Yeah I figured they were from the vimeo problems when I watched it on there, but I also downloaded it and some of them were still there, so I thought they were probably deliberate.

yes, some of those pauses were deliberate :) i find it very interesting that you noticed them so strongly, because i hadn't even thought about them as jarring before. but now that i think about it i get it ... maybe i should have made them a bit longer, hmm. i actually made this vid without thinking a lot about what i was doing, just in a few hours. so i vidded this in a way that came natural to me. now that you've both mentioned this i guess i do like to experiment a little bit even when i don't realize i'm doing it ;)
but i'm glad you sorta enjoyed it anyway, thanks you both! it's really nice to get some feedback like this - it's been a while since someone made me think about my vidding choices.
(also: oops, sorry for the late reply. i'm not so good at that)
