The topic of comic book vids (and other vids using still images/slideshows) came up in a thread in the main board, and I thought it would be cool to have a place where people could post recs! Kuwdora already mentioned Battlefield (Marvel: Civil War, Steve/Tony), and I love that vid to a ridiculous extent; it doesn't use a lot of effects, but the narrative is clear and the song choice delights me, hee. And I'll get the thread started with a few others of which I'm fond: Tick Tock Todd by RawkingBunny (DC Comics/Batman, Jason Todd) I especially like how the vidder uses the older scans and integrates some animated source. You Were My Greatest Mistake by KiiKitsune (DC Comics/Flashpoint, Thomas and Martha Wayne -- spoilers!) Short, but with some really sharp, atmospheric editing. We R Who We R by KiiKitsune (DC Comics/Batman, Damian Wayne & Colin Wilkes) Ass-kicking ten year olds! Blinded by starlight20angel (DC Comics, Jason Todd/Donna Troy) I have no idea what's going on here aside from these two characters being members of the Formerly Dead Superheroes Society, but it's a really nice example of a comics vid that uses relatively simple effects and looks gorgeous.

Well, these two are a little different but they fall under the "other vids using still images" idea and are two that I love years later. They're also available at animemusicvideos.org, but I found them on youtube in case people here can't access that site. Anythingwww.youtube.com/watch?v=M2c10h67csEThis is an amv based on Full Metal Alchemist using all original drawings. It stages a fight between the characters Greed and Envy to the Annie Get Your Gun song "Anything you can do, I can do better." Even if you don't know the characters at all, I think it's hysterical. Failed Experiments in Video Editingwww.youtube.com/watch?v=A2Dbk5wcewUThis is another video using a lot of original drawings, in this case interspersed with her short attempts at making a Cowboy Beebop AMV.

Ooh, I'd seen Failed Experiments in Video Editing before (still awesome), but not the other -- it's so much fun! I especially like how both vids use still images but create simple animations (mouths opening/closing, exclamations, etc.) for effect.

It's super cute, right?!
I think the simple animation you mention is really important. It's more possible to do than people think sometimes, especially if you can draw or are willing to spend the time and effort photoshopping (easier for some sources than others, that's for sure).
I have a dream of doing a vid for The Order of the Stick using these kinds of techniques, but Festivids must come first!

Oh, Anything and Failed Experiments in Video Editing are hilarious, thank you for reccing them! rokikurama, I'm really looking forward to it! After Festivids, of course! Years ago I made a vid using still images and speech bubbles to tell a silly little story. This was so much fun!

valikaWoot! Love to share the love. (Hee--and thanks for the Order of the Stick vid encouragement... I kept wondering if I was crazy to even think about trying it!) You should recc us your vid! It sounds super cute, and it's fascinating to see how different people tackle the (in the immortal words of sisabet) "sh*t don't move" problem

YOur wish is my command, rokikurama. It is a kind of ficlet/drabble or comics in video form actually. I made this years ago when Stargate Atlantis was cancelled and I was so pissed off, that I needed to make something with this that can make me laugh. First I made this in my language, than I made the English version. Maybe the translation is not perfect everywhere, but I hope it is understandable. www.youtube.com/watch?v=18wQH4GjT50

valikaThat is so funny! I haven't seen SGA, so some of the fine points are lost on me, but I was giggling quite a bit I also love the idea of taking screencaps and making speech bubbles for a source that originally moved--it does make it more like a fic but also reminds me of suuuuuuuper early vidding history with the projector slideshows.

Hey rokikurama, I'm glad this could make you giggle, even though you don't know the show. I was afraid that this could be understood if the viewer was familiar with the source.

Oh God, I love Battlefield so, so much. Let me throw out a rec for another of KiiKitsune's vids, this one a Tim/Kon vid Faded. I really might have started stalking this vidder at some point last summer. ETA: Yes, to clarify, I know that Battlefield and Faded are by different vidders but I love both vids a lot. Also, I am on massive amounts of cold medication so yes. Clarity.

That Faded vid is really neat! I love the way they hide some of the images and then reveal them or zoom in so they can make it look like there's more motion going on.

I only know one, but it's fab! elspethdixon.dreamwidth.org/167338.html <-- Love Hurts by Elspeth Dixon (Marvel Comics, Living Armor/Tony Stark). I don't know the canon, but it's nicely self-explanatory, and hilarious. Comics are such crack... [Edited because I don't understand this forum's markup rules.]
