Hey guys, figured I'd help jump start this part of the forum, since some of you folks from the old days might not know, I finally have a second fandom! It's crazy I know. I am totally vidding Doctor Who now. www.bloodypoetry.org/vids.html <- The first two vids on the page there are my two Doctor Who ones. Would love to know what yall think. Also, OMG this forum is already amazing, I know so many of you and ....*glomp* Edit: Oh yeah, forum rules and such, gimme feedback here, I don't mind having it scattered all over.

Thanks for posting! The vid posting board seems awful lonely right now. I watched Astronaut! I really liked the way the narrative and character story unfolded. I really like especially how you addressed the big percussion beats with very strong hard cuts, the quieter moments where eyelines moved in time with the piano, and the gorgeous way the pacing built up in the last third. I particularly loved the musicality of successive moments from 02:08 through to 2:13 - really organic and expressive - you seem to have a particular flair for matching Eleven's manic swirly movements to the way the vocals rise and fall. And I LOVE the emotional build up to the gunshots at 2:27. On the concrit side, for me, I felt some of the lyric matches were a tad on the over-literal side, especially starting with "book", and heading through to "small enough to cover with your hand", then sort of repeating the pattern with "cracks", and later, "rings" at 2:17. They were just a tad too on the nose for me. The other thing that threw me a bit was the fast cutting around 4:00. It felt like it wasn't quite hitting all the beats in the way that worked as well as the 2:50s, and I thought that ended up dragging the pacing a bit in the final climactic moments, which was a shame. It almost felt like the cuts were uniformly coming in about 2 frames after the beat. I'm wondering if it's because you're judging your cuts against the waveform? Normally I find there needs to be about a 2-frame compensation against waveform for some reason. I really enjoyed watching it. I sort of stopped watching DW during season 6 so it was very cool to have all these moments that I'm semi-familiar with all wrapped together in a neat character journey.

Thanks so much for the feedback! I adore concrit and this is really the first bit of it I have gotten for this video. My beta's tend to be family members, so they might not mention these things before I publish. For the literal side of things, I couldn't resist. It's a failing of mine to try to be completely literal at times, especially with a song that could be totally perfect. The book was almost the focus of the video, so I thought making it literal would give things a more emotional punch. For the rings, I really wanted to use a lot of Gallifreyian there, but couldn't really make it work. (Since Gallifreyian is made up of circles, and his name in Gallifreyian would look the same, blah). So I showed a bit of Gallifreyian, and lots and lots of circles, heh. I am sorry it didn't come across how I wanted. Timing: OMG I am going to have to edit it now I think. I fussed with that section SO MUCH. I am a perfectionist when it comes to timing, and nothing annoys me more than not getting it right. And you are right, it seems like it's just a little bit off. Gah. Thank you so much for pointing it out. If I revisit this video (which I most likely will), I will be fixing that first. Also, you are awesome. Thanks for the concrit!

Eeeee! I must admit I've never been River's biggest fan which I guess is Alex Kingston's fault; I just can't seem to warm up to her for some reason despite my biggest efforts. So I wasn't sure if "Astronaut" would work for me but it did--I love how badass and on some level tragic River is in this video. Whee!
(I'm actually rewatching season 4 at the moment and I'm really curious for the River episode because I haven't watched that one since it aired)
I really loved the montage that starts at around 2:45. That one just blew me away.

Astronaut is really great! I love the way it captures the disjointed nature of River's life, and the way that the diary bookends the vid is very neat. I loved the fast cutting sections and also your use of some of the quieter moments from the episodes.
