If you have a specific question about Avisynth, ask it here.
To better enable our tech-savvy members to help, please give as much information as possible, including (where appropriate):
PC or Mac? What operating system are you using? What version of Avisynth are you using? What source are you trying to import/export? What script do you use?

I recently upgraded to Avisynth 2.6.0.2 and it won't recognize the Telecide(order=1,guide=2) command to deinterlace my PAL DVDs anymore. I now use LeakKernelDeint(order=1), but I have the feeling that it is more sloppy with frame blends. So my question would be, what interlacer command are you using and how happy are you with the results?

I was just waiting for you to start this thread.
Problems, Should I wait before upgrading then?

I've been using TomsMoComp (1,5,1) and it works really well.

xandra: I would wait with the upgrade. 2.5.8 works really stable and you aren't really too interested in Avisynth in the first place. eunice: The download links I found for TomsMoComp on a quick google search aren't working any more and the last update was around 2005. Are your sure, it will work with the newer Avisynth version? I was always very happy with Telecide, the speed and accuracy was awesome, so I'm fine with using an older filter.

astarte I figured if should upgrade you would tell. I was just hoping it might actually help because using avisynth the why you like me too usually hates my computer. I just want there to be one that lets me at least try cs5 with it.

astarte Huh, I don't know. I got everything in the amvapp on the A&E technical guide, never downloaded an avisynth filter individually. Not going to upgrade if I can't use it anymore, though

Thanks for starting the thread! We definitely need an avisynth help thread, I'm so out of my depth on it. I've been using TomsMoComp (1,5,1) and it works really well. That's me as well. But I haven't used avisynth to de-interlace since I stopped using Premiere 6.5, which... uh, isn't exactly recent.

xandra: In the vid commentary replies I found out that avisynth works in CS5, if you use the 64bit version. Download link with several filter you should also install is forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=162558. I tried to figure out the best way to install it. Download the avisynth 64 build and the file with the core you have (I have intel). Export it, install it as admin and then dump the 64filter in the created plugins64 folder. And you have to dump the libfftw3f-3.dll into your system32 folder. The filters should enable you to use the most basic features as 64bit and then tell me, if you can edit with the avs-files in CS5. eunice: Yeah, I would stick to the old version. They are now working on Avisynth 3 for what feels like several years. When they release a stable version, AMVapp will pick it up lightening quick. They always do. @nicky: The more I read about it, the more I feel lost with Avisynth, but in a roadtrip kinda way. It's all about the journey. And I copied your thread setup, I hope that was fine.

Yeah totally! Really keen to have a collaborative atmosphere where people feel free to set up threads on whatever interests them. I'll edit the new threads into the board's sticky master post the next time I update there.
I'm quite interested in hearing about the avisynth 64 bit build. Not sure if I'm comparing apples and oranges here, but one problem I have with 64-bit Vegas is that I couldn't directly import avisynth scripts the way I could into Premiere, with the result that I can't do pre-production on source; I always have to edit them raw now and clean up everything in post-production. Which is fine, just a new way of having to do things once I moved from Premiere to Vegas. ANYway, if there is now a way to import avisynth scripts into 64-bit Vegas, I'd be quite keen in learning about it.

Sounds like Vegas 64 has the same problem as CS5 - and they are both native 64bit programs, so perhaps this Avisynth 64 bit build would also solve your problems. But I can't test it, neither program is currently installed and I never tried Vegas. So go for it? Tell me about your discoveries?

I couldn't find a 64-bit version of TomsMoComp, so for NTSC DVD source I've been using TFM() TDecimate() I think TFM() TDecimate(cycle=25) should work for PAL, but the A&E guide has more info about prettier postprocessing that I haven't looked at yet, because I haven't actually finished anything in CS5 yet. I miss TomsMoComp and not having to think about any of it so much.

Yay, looks good in AvsP - and it is fast. I'll try it in Premiere sometime soon. I don't want to deal with interlacing in Premiere, so this took care of that problem and post-processing is all about tweaking and polishing for me.
Afteredit: Okay, now I use tdeint() - I think it is the equivalent of Telecine, at least it gives me the same result for each frame.
I did give out the correct info with Avisynth64 for the CS5 crowd, right, thuviaptarth?
