Has anyone here upgraded to Lion or Mountain Lion, and if so, has it affected your vidding at all? I know that Mac the Ripper, as a power pc application, is no longer supported, but it looks like mpeg streamclip is. I've been hanging onto Snow Leopard because I fear the upgrade, but I know at some point I'll have to take the plunge! Similarly, have any Final Cut Pro users made the switch to FCP X? I use Final Cut Express, and I've been thinking about upgrading and wondering if I should go with FCP X or FCP 7. I had assumed that FCP 7 wasn't supported on Mountain Lion, but apparently it at least works for some people. The main message I've heard about FCP X is that some professionals are unhappy that many of the changes that make Final Cut easier to learn also reduce user control. This seems to be the overall path that Apple has taken and is something I strongly dislike in general. But I also wonder if, for vidding and other hobbyish purposes, any of that reduction in user control would affect me at all. Right now the fanciest thing I do on a regular basis is keyframe opacity levels. Then again, I'm hoping in the future that I can push past my laziness enough to learn how to use more effects and other features in Final Cut! Finally, I don't use iMovie, but if anyone has thoughts or questions on the latest version of that, I'd be interested to hear how it's changed. I always heard that an older version of iMovie (6?) was much better, and have wondered if any of its features are back on the latest version.

I'm on Lion, though I don't vid on my Mac, because I love Sony Vegas too much. But last week my normal ripper on my PC (SmartRipper) had a problem with some discs with interactive content on them. So I went looking for a way to rip with my Mac, and found a version of MacTheRipper that works with Lion. It worked like a charm. I think you need version 3.0r14m.
