So I just got my second "matched third-party content" notice on YT. It didn't feel like a big deal to me, because it says that it's still available worldwide and it doesn't affect my account. But I still decided to google around a bit before clicking the "I acknowledge" button right away. Reading other people's experiences has made me rather nervous and confused though. The first time I got it, I just naively acknowledged the claim. But wouldn't this put me at a disadvantage in case of a serious strike? This time it's a video with music from a significantly more popular artist than the first one, and I haven't done anything yet. The other option is "I believe that this copyright claim is not valid." What happens if I just do nothing?

I was hoping someone with actual experience would jump in, but here is what I know/assume for what it's worth. if you're going to dispute that the copyright claim is not valid, then I assume you'll need to put forward a case of why that's not the case, and it turns into a bigger thing than what you might be prepared to do at this time. I don't know anything about it, but reading this and this, for example, it seems like quite an intensive process for which you need to be quite ready to support your fair use claim. The trouble with YT is that you are going to get pinged if you use a popular song, and personally, I think if you're not prepared to go the whole hog and fight it, then it's probably better to use some of the workarounds that I've seen YT vidders do - use a 10 second intro to your vids so the software doesn't pick up your song choice, or speed up/slow down your song by 5% so it tricks the recognition software, etc.

Welp, as long as it's only one country where it's being blocked (which has happened now), it's not that bad I guess. I would have expected worse, but living in Germany I'm totally used to this. I did several test runs where I changed the pitch, tempo, duration, anything, and they still got recognised. I didn't try the intro though, so that may be worth a shot next time. Thanks!
