So with so much of fandom shifting over to tumblr will the vidding community follow? Or has it already established there and no-one has told me...
Do any of you publish your vids on tumblr and what sort of reaction do you get to them?

I like it as an "advertising" platform of sorts. There are a ton of people on my Tumblr that aren't on LJ or DW, and wouldn't know about my vids otherwise. I got such a wide viewership for my first Boardwalk vid due to my participation in a lot of the discussion about the fandom on Tumblr. I don't know if I'd solely rely on it to be my only posting platform, but I like using it in addition to other sites.

I feel old and decrepit saying this, but I haven't even gotten around to checking out Tumblr yet. Haven't had a compelling reason to. What kind of platform is it? Like LJ with your own space and also like a f-list for visiting other people's spaces? Or a different kind of set-up altogether?

I don't post my own vids to tumblr, but I've had my vids posted there by other people before, and as long as they credit or link back, I think it's a really great way to gain more exposure. Like YouTube, though, I think whether or not Tumblr is beneficial to you depends on how much control you want to have over who sees your vids.
To answer your question, Nicky, it's sort of both. You do have your own space and a dashboard (which is like your f-list), but most people post there significantly more than on LJ, since it's more graphics-based. I follow about the same amount of people on Tumblr as I do on LJ, and I could never keep up with my Tumblr dash even if I refreshed it every ten minutes. You can also search tags on tumblr to see who else is posting about whatever you're interested in seeing, which is a pretty cool feature.

voodoochild and elipie thanks for the information. I think it is interesting to see how vids are received. I haven't found any tumblr accounts dedicated to vidding yet, although there is one dedicated to gifs about vidding... I've only been active over there since December. I like it less now than when I first used it and on ocassions feel that the time spent scrolling/liking/reblogging is time I could spend creating something. My artwork gets a great response but the vids nothing to speak about.

I haven't found any tumblr accounts dedicated to vidding yet, although there is one dedicated to gifs about vidding... There are some. They tend to be run by people collecting others' vids in a particular fandom. sherlockfanvids.tumblr.com/ was posting regularly for a while, but nobody has been submitting vids, and the mod is too busy to search for them alone. For me, Tumblr is just one more place to get hits on Youtube. I don't really get feedback on Youtube anyway, so the fact that Tumblr is crap for conversation doesn't bother me if I'm embedding from there. Mostly, I'm too lazy to post to Tumblr though. If I vidded more in fandoms that are big there, I would probably make more of an effort.

I'm wary of Tumblr because reposting/reblogging is so easy and I'm paranoid and like to remain as much control over where my vids are posted as possible. Using Tumblr feels like giving a free ticket to do whatever with my vids. Though as someone mentioned Tumblr as a place for advertisement, I do like the idea of just using Tumblr to link to LJ. I wonder if people do that.

I've only posted one of my vids to tumblr, but most of the ones I've made since Tumblr became popular have ended up on there anyway. The one time I did post one, someone else posted it and got ~120 more notes on it than my own post! One good thing (and I'm not sure how rare this is) is that everyone who's posted one of my vids to Tumblr (that I've seen, at least) has either given me credit or linked back to my original LJ post. Luckily I don't really care if my vids are on tumblr or not, as long as whoever posts them gives me credit, but I can totally understand why some vidders don't want to be on Tumblr. It's kind of similar to YouTube in the sense that anyone can post it, anyone can claim it as their own, and once it's there, you don't really have a controlled audience anymore.
