And I am desperate to make a Catelyn & Cersei vid, but I need a. a song, b. a lot more footage, and c. any confidence that anyone but me would want to watch it. I'd watch it! obsessive24Oh I'm glad someone else feels that way. It's almost like a meta-textual reading love, where you're just admiring the planning of it. (This is also what gets me through Joe Abercrombie's books--they're just so well-written and interesting as genre commentary that I can deal with the horrible horrific horrifying things that happen to almost all of the characters) Sam, of all people in the series, has become one of my favorite characters just for that aspect.

I think mentioning it must have shaken something loose, because I think I have a song. Now I just need a lot more footage. I mean a lot more footage.

Ooooooh this would be a good song for a Cersei & Catelyn parallel vid. I think the stripped down but still lyrical quality would work with the footage really beautifully. I hear you on the more footage desire especially with the brief lyric about a "sister" that you really want Lyanna for. It's also nice how (at least in season one) they gave us more of Cersei to work with; the scene where she's drinking with Robert near the end really struck me as an interesting addition.

I am going to be sitting on this one for SO long. It's infuriating. On the other hand, at least I'll probably be really good by the time the footage exists?

Gack--true enough on the time issue. I think you undersell your impressive skills right now, though! If it makes you feel better, all the Song of Ice and Fire stuff has made me desperately want to vid Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel series, which is likely never going to see the big or small screen. I have all of these "rose" songs in my head that would be beautiful... alas

Oh, god, book vid bunnies. I have a perfect song for Sarah Monette's Doctrine of Labyrinths series, which is never going to see film.

So I finished reading book 5, and I has thoughts about Dany's storyline.
Book 5 spoilers
I really don't get this random obsession with Daario. It's like, GRRM spends all this time telling us how she's so lusty and "in love with" him, but I just don't feel it. His character, the way it's described, just seems nasty and unworthy and I just don't understand how Dany could be so infatuated with him at all. I think people's true natures are very much reflected in their choice of partner. Drogo was worthy of her love and respect; Daario is not. I just don't see a character like her falling for a character like him, and the fact that she does lowers my opinion of her. Which is sad, because to me it smacks so much more of bad writing than it is of a real lack of awesome on her part.

I honestly think she was just lonely and the stress of everything made her turn to something man shaped. She is still young after all. But I agree, I was very wtf about the whole thing too.

LOL, I can appreciate the need for something man-shaped on occasion; I just wish it wasn't someone so blatantly unworthy of her.

I'm very neutral on Dany's desire for Daario. On the one hand, it seems so stupid and, more than agreed, Daario is no Drogo. The way Martin writes it makes her feel way too long to me, much more like a schoolgirl crush than the feelings of someone with Dany's experience. On the other hand (and reading significantly into it), I like the idea that Dany has feelings for someone/thing that's *not* in the stringent political role she's been forced to play all of her life. Daario is so obviously not in the plan that it feels like a mini-rebellion in the "let me have this one area of my life that is just for me" sense, almost like Harvey Milk's second partner in Milk if you've seen that movie.

I totally agree with where it's going in principle of the anti-political... I just wish it were someone more worthy. I'd rather that she rebelled with.... well, I can't think of a good candidate. All the men around her at the time are pretty horrible, or are eunichs. There's Ser Barristan, but we shan't go there. ;D
