So last night, I had this EPIPHANY. I was randomly skipping through my music library and this one song I've loved forever came up, and my brain suddenly connected it to all these scenes from Inception, and I wanted to start working on the vid immediately, but I did a safety search on Youtube first, to see if the song was blocked in Germany (which wouldn't stop me from making a vid, but I still like to check first). And oh, the pain. I found the exact same song used in a vid for Inception.  It's not even a popular artist, so I was baffled. And the vid is mostly random scenes thrown together, it seems, so I guess I could still do it, but that other version has almost 100.000 views, so... probably won't. |

Aww, I hope you won't let that stop you. YT is so vast that it doesn't surprise me that someone somewhere has made a vid to the same song and source as you. I think it would be a shame to give up on a great idea just because that person threw something togethert with what sounds like a minimum of effort and thought.

I had the same dilemma with something I was thinking of doing as a Festivids treat. And honestly, if someone's made a bad vid to the song, I don't think that should forever stop anyone else using it. As long as yours is markedly different in scene selection and general look & feel, I think you're fine. These days with so many vids on YouTube there are bound to be double-ups. What you're planning to do is not copying someone else's work. It's your own idea.

Had a thought the other day... Has anyone ever vidded Indiana Jones: The Last Crusade to The Cup of Life by Ricky Martin? It'd be awesome! ;D I don't have the movie in any version, but if anyone has the time to make a crack vid, please do. The idea gives me crack-inspired goosebumps of joy! I do love a good crack-vid!  |
