To be honest, I'm not sure if this is a good video to post as a WiP because it's turned out more complicated than I thought and I'm not even sure I can or should finish it, but I hope that maybe posting it here will at least motivate me enough to try. Also, comments are greatly appreciated :-)
It all began with my vacation to Scotland in autumn. We went with a few friends and rented a car and drove through the Highlands and our soundtrack was the only CD I'd remembered to bring and which, likewise, I hadn't listened to in ages--Runrig's "Proterra". Consequently we listened to it a lot and at one point I got the idea in my head to vid the first two minutes or so of "From The North" (the bit before the song turns all electro-pop) to "Game of Thrones". (So beware, there be spoilers for the show but not the books as I haven't read those)
Oh, and the main theme is "Ned Stark raised a bunch of warriors and married a brave woman and very soon you Lannisters will be sorry for what you did."
Days of Preparation 1 - approx. 3,895
Getting hold of good quality files, finding out how the heck get mkv files converted so they can be used in SonyVegas (thank you, Format Factory), converting them to VOBs, then clipping them using VirtualDubMod.

TimeLine Screenshot (I've really come to like the idea of using the above track for placeholders)
I usually have a rough outline of where to put what clips, but since this video is fairly short and I've been planning it out in my head for months I just decided to work without and toss the clips directly on the timeline. For that reason, it also took me a few hours to fill said timeline albeit there still needs to be a lot of tweaking, and quite a few clips are placeholders.
My main concern is currently the music. I need to edit the track down because I only want the epic beginning of the song, but unfortunately the electro bass beats start pretty much on the last note that I need from the beginning, and I'm not sure how I can get rid of it. ( Whole Song --could only find a live version, sorry) At the moment I have a fairly strong fade-out but that one kind of takes the punch out of the ending as well. I wonder if I should let a few bass beats in before I do the fade out, or if the music piece is too tricky and consequently killing the entire video.
Couple more notes:
00:00 - 00:08 - brother has suggested to only have one longer scene rather than those crossfades. Will try that out, I guess.
00:25 - not entirely happy with the raven, he's too static, I think.
00:45-00:50 - maybe lose one of the scenes of Ned muttering?
01:04 - tiny thing but I feel Bran should be in the scene a notch longer
01:22 - 01:29 - rethink if there aren't better better ways to link Ned with the rise of his children/his wife
01:40-01:41 - placeholder for Arya doing something swordy. She looks too cute in this scene and Ned isn't supposed to show up after his death anymore (duh).
01:52 - do I count Theon as a Stark family member?
02:02 - not sure if the scene with Jaime and Catelyn stays or not.
02:04 - fix the glitch I totally missed *coughs*
02:13 - the ending! OMG what to do with the ending!
Yeah. I'm not even sure if this vid has potential--somehow the idea seemed niftier in my head than it looks right now. I will certainly push some clips around and whatnot, but the music issue REALLY bugs me.
I guess even if this video turns out to be bad and non-postable I may just treat it as a testrun for shiny visual effects and the like? I still need to test out avisynth on something, after all. Who knows? Maybe it'd help if I turned the whole thing black and white? ;D
EDIT Oh dear God. Having just seen Nicky's "Iron" vid in the other WiP thread I feel mildly embarrassed about this now. (Uhm uhm uhm, I told you it was bad from the start, okay? *goes someplace to calm her nerves*)
