First of all, thank you all for your lovely replies and thoughts and "kicks-in-my-butt". (So, Nicky, I'm absolutely fine with the "Suck it up, bitch" ;D ) For one, I'm relieved that you all have been there. That's actually quite helpful itself and makes me feel less like an alien from another planet who's taken up the shape of a vidder to study the "proper" vidders. @obsessive24: I don't know what made me accutely embarrassed about the GoT vid, really. I think that it just feels uninspired to me, like there should be more symbolism and raw emotions and more epic stuff in it, but I don't know how to do it. I've been poking at it this past week, pushed some clips around etc. and am overall happier with it now, but again, I was too insecure to post it in my WiP thread. astarte: I like this idea of just vidding a movie I love...I think I'll try that one! Thank you! absolutedestiny: You're like the Obi-Wan of this forum. Thank you for your comment and advice. I shall print it out and come back to it whenever I have the vidding funk again . franzeska:I want to see that now! ;D

I had a massive vidding funk about a year ago. I don't think I'd made a vid in two years. There were some extremely serious RL issues that contributed to it, but I actually found vidding helped me cope with those. It was Eunice who got me out of it, when she told me to just vid ANYTHING. And not to try to be like anyone else or feel like I needed to do something deep and meta-tastic. Because that's not me. I had to embrace the style of vidder I was and just go with it. And out came several vids that I am really happy with. So whenever I get stuck I just push on through, however crap the vid seems to me at the time. It always helps just to achieve something.

I don't think I've made enough vids yet to know what kind of vidder I am ;D But still, it seems that everyone should have a eunice around

What franzeska said about having a fun project on the side is also a good way, if you have a depressing source like Game of Thrones - I did that when I vidded Supernatural with 'One Week'. When I was too burned out on angst, I worked for a day or two on the comedy vid and then returned to my main ones.
What I really love about movie vids is the limited source, which can kick your ass for other reasons. But dealing with two hours is in some cases really calming, because you can shake the nagging feeling that you miss one epic perfect clip for your vid. I tend to vid multiseason shows, so this is constantly on my mind.

And (for me, anyway) I'm better able to focus my narrative/point without feeling like I'm ignoring or neglecting this thing, and this other thing, and that other thing and running off in four different directions without being able to settle on one. Sometimes I think having less source is an advantage because it forces you to be willing to find ways to really sit with a moment and let it breathe.

legoline, so well said. I think the best way to leave your vidding funk behind is doing something, anything on your timeline without any worries, just having fun. As franzesca said, it could be "to do bright pink heart transitions over Celine Dion". ;D Yes.

Do you think it's the weight of expectation that's making you insecure? What about trying to vid without thinking about releasing it to the public at all? Really focus on making vids for yourself and developing without worrying about what other people will think of it? Not sure that's where your block is coming from, but maybe an approach like that would help? I would definitely second this. I find I write and vid so much better when I don't think about sharing. I don't start writing or vidding with the primary intention of sharing, and I don't decide whether I am going to share until it's done. Then I judge whether it's good enough for public consumption on the finished product, rather than trying to judge something that isn't complete, or even started yet! Not every vid wants to be a masterpiece, some just want to be let out of the closet and you kinda stare at them in their trashy glory and think, 'Whatever!' *pat pat* And you move on to the next project. I do believe you may have neatly summed up my current vid Like you say, sometimes you just have to get things out of your system, and sometimes that involves vidding a slashy western to Nickelback's When we stand together. Aaand then you can move on ;D Jaz

Definitely loving Absolutedestiny's advice here, too. I think also knowing how you work helps, like Franzeska said—some people work better under pressure, so deadlines are necessary. It's beginning to look like that for Festivids, for me. I never finish a Festivid within a couple weeks after the assignments are put out, as some people do!
