I finished reading The Eyre Affair yesterday. I really, really liked it. And I'm veeeery glad that for once in his life Rochester had something to do besides being grumpy and dark. That's all ;D

It's not a sequel, no. It's the first novel in a trilogy set in an alternate Britain in which literature has a way bigger importance than it does in ours. Through technology and steampunk-ish gimmicks it is possible to wander between the fictional world and the real world. The central novels in the first book are Dickens' Martin Chuzzlewit and Bronte's Jane Eyre. It's really cool Reminded me a little of Doctor Who for some reason.

I read Good Omens about nine or ten years ago now. I don't think I quite *got* all the humor. I'd like to read it again sometime, but.. eh. The one part I remember specifically was when Crowley, I think, puts a bucket of holy water on the door so when it's opened, it falls on a demon and he's all "ohshitohshitohshit!" and for whatever reason, I thought that was hilarious. I read Stardust last summer. I really liked it, but I did not like it so well as the movie. The Graveyard Book is also very good, though it's for kids. It's very like Harry Potter. Neverwhere is probably my favorite Gaiman book. I need to re-read it. All the characters were great, and I liked the concept of a person being able to open any door, on the run. I started American Gods about five or six years ago, but got about halfway through with it and got busy or started reading something else. Sometimes I pick it back up, but... meh. I'd probably be more into it now, if I ended up just restarting it. Before I started reading The Hunger Games, I got through The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and the first sequel. They're pretty good. I couldn't get through the third one before the library started hounding me to return it, though. :/

Dude. I've just finished the first two books of Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicles (my brother gave them to me recently), and I can't get them out of my head--fantastic!
Anyone else read them?

legolineSeriously. I can't get them out of my head (a problem given that the contents of my head are supposed to be finishing my Festivid, my conference presentation, and Japanese). I've already started a little fic even on the premise that it would help me move on, which has backfired into my re-reading all of Elodin's appearances for "research" purposes (amused). Do you have a favorite character? I'm a huge Demi fan as well.

I know what you mean! When I finished the first book I wanted to write an entire filk album dedicated to the story ;D I still hope to write a song about it someday It's just so... good. And aside from being good, Rothfuss has some serious skill with words. His writing is beautiful. (I've actually cast Bast and Kvothe in my head...) I think Bast is probably my favourite. There's something adorable and dangerous about him. I also like Denna and I'm strangely fond of Kvothe's friends at the University

Nice to see the 'American Gods' love here. I finished it this summer holiday and loved it. Always did have a thing for mythology though. It was recommended by a friend after there was an 'homage' to it in a Supernatural episode once - who'd have thunked.
Just started Clash of Kings this week - Christmas present, I found the the first GoT book an easy read so I don't think this will take me long.
Watching a documentary by Iannucci on Dickens last night has me wanting to read one of his novels - I read a few some years back and should have kept going. Plus this time of year there's always something dickensian on the box.
