Hi elipie, don't know if you still have that as a question, but after reading various Foolish Passion tutorials I was convinced I should be using Mac the Ripper to rip and MPEG Streamclip to convert (converting to DV mov for Final Cut or DV for iMovie). Maybe this is overkill -- it certainly takes a lot of disc space! -- but it has been working for me.
I have a question: what codec(s) and file type(s) should mac vidders use for our final export? I want windows and linux users to be able to view my vids too, and I am totally ignorant of what works and doesn't for them. Thanks in advance all!

I haven't had any complaints. (Though maybe people just haven't said anything.) VLC is available for everything and it will play most files; I don't think the compatibility issues are huge unless you have people sending you specific feedback that they want to play your vids on an ancient version of WMP or something.
