I've actually seen 8.08. I'm still in denial. (Like I'm in denial about another character's disappearance in season six--somewhere, that character is still working undercover, I just know it...)
Hmmm, I suppose you're right. I guess even if I think that season is bad it's probably still better than a lot of other stuff out there. I shall hunt the season down. The DVD was still fairly expensive last I checked.
(Dude, that's AWESOME. Vid the show! Vid it! Please? Also, Matthew Good Band=never a bad thing.)

THEY'RE IN RUSSIA, DAMMIT. Both of them. Together. Yes. (And yes! I've been working on a Ros vid, but it's pretty firmly stalled, and I think this might be my next project instead -- I mean, hello, Mr Carter.)

THEY'RE IN RUSSIA, DAMMIT. Both of them. Together. Yes. YES. DEFINITELY. Every time I see the actors showing up somewhere else I just go, "Still working deep covers, I see. ALL IS WELL, DAMMIT. Oh, helloooooooo. Yes please. Yesyesyes. I looooved Adam. Except maybe in season 6 but other than that? Awesomecakes. But I'm also all in favour of Ros vids. It's funny, when she showed up in season 4 I basically thought, "And everybody loves her? Really?" And then the other seasons happened. You know all these Chuck Norris jokes? They also apply to Ros. Except with Ros, they're real. (Do I need to say more than, "Harry, there is no gun."?)

YOU DO NOT. Jesus god I love that scene. (Although I am totally one of the only two people I know who love her introduction. I have seen 5.01 and 5.02 so many times I can practically do chunks of the dialogue off by heart. Admittedly there's a plot hole you can drive a truck through, but given that closing it means ending up with a dystopic AU, I can live with that.)

YOU DO NOT. Jesus god I love that scene. You and me both. Or as my brother once put it: "Ros only blinks when she decides to." I love that Spooks has so many awesome female characters. They kick ass without being complete stereotypes. British telly, I love you. I must admit that I have currently forgotten what the season 5 opener was...*hides*

I was SO sure that was season four. Oops I must rewatch Spooks. Maybe once I get around to watch season 9 and 10. There need to be more vids for this show. *nudges you gently*

Rewatching it now I feel that some of the editing is too hectic I'm not sure if this vid works without knowing the source material. I tried really hard to shift the focus with every new "batch" but... Pretty! I have not seen Spooks. All I know about it is that it is kind of dark and some guy drowned only not. (Hey, that must be this guy!) Things that worked for me (as someone who doesn't know the source):The scenes on the beach were perfect. Someone swimming out to sea with no obvious destination, search and rescue teams, and the two coworkers who we've seen enough in the vid to be familiar with them staring hopelessly at the water are easy to appreciate without any show knowledge. The muted color palette suits the music. I got a very clear idea of the kind of emotion you were going for. This looks like any angsty, canon plot-heavy vid. (Not in a bad way!) I wouldn't be able to tell how long you'd been vidding or what tech you were using or any of those things new vidders stress over. I liked the jump cuts and the use of black between some of the clips. Things that did not work for me:I can tell there's a lot of plot here and that you are covering more than just a single case plotline or a single failed relationship. As a non-viewer, that is too much plot for me to get from one vid. I don't think the pace of the editing is an issue though. (I also don't think this is something you can fix. This is just a vid for fans of the show, which is fine. IMO, almost all angsty character studies work a lot better for fans of the source. Goofy humor is a lot easier to make accessible to people who haven't seen it.) Never underestimate your audience's inability to tell people apart, especially any time there are characters with similar hair or skin colors or the same character at radically different points in the show. I can't tell how many women there are. He has a kid with one woman, and marriage is obviously an issue, but I can't tell how many love interests there were in the vid and whether any of them are the same as the coworker. One of them died in his arms, but I can't tell which one. I had trouble telling whether the guy with the helicopter flying over him in 3:50 was the same guy because of his hair. There are a lot of different people involved in different hostage situations and revenge killings and plot I don't understand. Enough of them look different enough for me to know there are lots but not for me to follow the plots at all or associate different clips with each other. (I don't imagine this would be a problem for a show viewer, but just FYI since you were wondering how this might play for a non-viewer.) It looks like you're jumping around in time as he's remembering the things that drove him to suicide. Great for keeping a familiar fan interested in your particular take on the canon they've already seen. Bad for communicating plot to me. I second that not that many people watch a given vid. I will watch outside of my fandoms if someone asks for concrit or if the fandom looks rare and I'm curious. I normally won't watch vids for big fandoms I don't love (which is most of them). I come away from this vid going "Poor whatsherface and whatshisface searching for his body! Waaaaaah!"

I have been trying for a long while to think of a good, thought-out answer to your comment because I'm really, really grateful for the time you took to write this, but alas, what it comes down to is this: Thank you so much for watching that vid even though it's not for fandom I guess I did make it mostly for fans of the show, and I feared that it wouldn't make much sense to anyone unfamiliar with the source material. Then again, as people have pointed out, probably not many people unfamiliar with the source would watch it. I'm very, very relieved that my "Newbie to Vidding" status didn't show, though, and I'm very glad you liked the scenes with the ocean, the swimming and his co-workers because those are the ones I'm most proud of Never underestimate your audience's inability to tell people apart, especially any time there are characters with similar hair or skin colors or the same character at radically different points in the show. This is some real good advice that I'll certainly keep in mind. Thank you!

This was your first vid? I'm impressed. I've never seen Spooks but this vid certainly made it look interesting. The emotion came through clearly enough and the beginning with the waves was especially powerful. Really impressive start, can't wait to see where you go from here.

While I didn't watch Spooks from the very beginning, I did watch some of the final episodes featuring Tom Quinn and this video is a beautiful study of the character. You show his struggles as well as the emotional connections he has both with the team and the people away from his job. The music you used fit the tone of the video, and the images used were hard hitting - I concur with Obsessive24 in regards to your use of the drum beats and Tom walking into the sea being a moment of grace after all events have come to a head. In a way, his character is similar to the later addition of Adam- (I didn't watch the Armitage seasons after Rupert Penry-Jones left)- in the sense they both have duties not only to their countries, but also to the people they leave behind everyday. Watching this video, kinda brought that idea to my attention. After watching s10, the same I think could be felt with Harry *no spoilers but it was an interesting ending to the series, and I did shed a few tears in the last few minutes of the finale*. For your first video, it was a brilliant edit - although it seemed alittle jumpy at the beginning (althogh that could have been my laptop being evil -.-) - but such faults are quickly ignored in the face of the video as a whole. And can't wait to see the Spooks video, thatyourefuse And a video with Adam would be a treat xD That man was seriously cute *and did I mention hot! (says the Adam Carter fangirl ) xP*
