What about keeping a log for each other of a few memorable vids you've watched this week and your reactions, time-stamps, or favorite bits of them? Anyone up for a little review circle? Give our viewing list and review, then discuss it with others if anyone agrees/disagrees/wants also to squee. I might be better at giving feedback if I know I can run back here and talk to people about it!

I like this in theory, but what's the position on criticism, given that (as I understand) this is more a discussion between fellow viewers as it is between viewer>vidder?
I like the idea of it being sort of like a book club, if that's what you mean? We get our assignments each week and then all talk about the same vids?

I think criticism would be fine, considering this board is concrit friendly. A book club is an apt comparison to what I would like to see happen. I don't think it would have to be as organized as assignment based but if it would help to choose a few vids to talk about each week that would definitely work too. I also like the idea of anyone throwing in a vid to discuss at their whim, but that might not be as effective as far as promoting continued discussion. I'm longing for something vid-review panel-esque.

I would be into something semi-regular like that. I think there would need to be at least a little structure, again if we're using Vid Review as an example, then possibly someone needs to instigate the discussion or lead it in a particular direction, maybe? Maybe it would work best if there is a rotating "panel leader" role and each week (or fortnight or whatever) they could pick the vids they want to discuss and - not necessarily lead the discussion, but sort of guide it? - and then the following week/fortnight it could be someone else's turn. There could be a roster. ;D

I don't think it would have to be as organized as assignment based but if it would help to choose a few vids to talk about each week that would definitely work too. To be perfectly blunt, I like vidding because I like playing with editing software. On an average week, I watch zero vids by other people. I only watch when I'm doing a specific project like watching all of the Festivids or I'm at a con vidshow or betaing or something. Having a set schedule and assignments would sure help this rather onanistic vidder. I think this sounds like a great idea in general though. The only thing I'd say is that it should have a policy right up front that if someone's late, the next scheduled person should still go on time. Giving people "one more day" has sunk a lot of ongoing discussion schedules on mailing lists I've been on.

Firstly, props for using "onanistic" in a sentence. ;D I second the sticking to chedule. Just can't trust flaky people.

Well, plus, sometimes RL happens. Inevitably, even people who aren't normally flakey will miss their assigned slot now and then. The less damage that can cause aside from delaying/canceling that specific discussion, the better. (I totally owe a mailing list an episode review right now. Someone got extra time, and then I was waiting for the people who were supposed to go after her to go, and now we're like a month behind, so I need to just do mine even if it's out of order. Augh. Guilt.)

Ah! This sounds really exciting! And I'd be the first to say I'm a flake, so some time limitations are probably a super good idea. I'm looking forward to picking apart some vids!

Wherever people are talking about flaky people I show up and act indignant because I am a flaky person.

(p.s. this idea is cool)

I wonder if we have enough interest to get it off the ground. That would be quite good.

I'd definitely be interested! I'm pretty much the worst when it comes to leaving feedback, and it's something I want to do more, so extra motivation is a good thing

I'm so hoping there will be enough interest. Maybe interest in it will grow once we've started? Or we could just be a small vid watcher club Either way, I'm still interested.

I'm interested; I just...have no clear idea about how you would want to approach this. I'm terrible at keeping up with new vids, so I'm not sure how much linkage I could provide.

I reckon we should just put our heads down on this and get started. Who wants to be the first discussion leader and pick a vid to discuss? ;D (I assume we're doing this on the forum? All on this thread, or start a separate thread with each new round?) Once we get started I figure we could also pimp it on LJ.
Also, to clarify - should we focus on new vids that have been posted in, say, the last month? Or do we also discuss "classic vids"? I guess my initial thought on this is that there may already be some (and in some cases a lot) discussion around some "classic vids", so maybe it'd be more worthwhile to focus on new vids?

I agree we should just go ahead and start. Personally, I'd go for a new thread for each discussion. That makes them easier to read after the fact, especially if subsequent vids don't relate back to previous choices and aren't being discussed together.
I can see the argument for avoiding classic vids that have already been discussed to death. At the same time, what's classic? There are plenty of old vids online no one's ever discussed. I'd be fine with a date cutoff though; it's simple and easy.
